I can't wait to see the fireworks with the ComicLink Fears:whee:

To say I was outbid for the issue I wanted would be a wee understatement.

I mistakenly added an extra digit on a tracking bid and I didn't realize it until late yesterday. I was resigned to having an extra copy of the book at a huge price. I was happy and shocked to be outbid as the auction closed. It wasn't a Fear, by the way.

I freaking wish ComicLink would add a tracking feature.

The Fear 6 I assume? That thing went nuts:whatthe:

Yep.

Confession Corner:  The amazing/incredible/fantastic/astonishing/mighty/uncanny recent prices being realized for picture frames has helped plant the evil thought that now might be the right time to start selling off my slabbed collection of them. I haven't committed to doing so yet, but it does give one pause.  Doing a bit of downgrading also is an option.  hm

Yeah I hear you. It would be tempting. I think you'll miss them. Downgrade if you can stand the lower grade. I had put together the Steranko/Adams run of X Men in 9.6 many years ago. This was early days of CGC when they weren't so readily available, took me forever to get a 59 at the time as they just didn't come up much and there were only 3-4 on the census. Anyhow, 9-10 years ago those books got hot for a split second and were for some inexplicable reason selling well over $1K each with some pushing $2K. I sold. Regretted selling almost immediately even though I did quite well with them on CL. Started buying them back a couple of years later. Luckily they had calmed down quite a bit so I was able to buy them back at quite a bit less than I sold but the fact remains that I missed them almost immediately and those books were much, much easier to find in high grade than some of the PF books so you may have a hard time replacing them if you find that you want to.

You're still young, Chris.  I'm 65 now, and have already sold off my entire collection of SA slabs, along with the first few longboxes of Bronze and Copper comics that I bought off the rack.  So the mindset of being in a selling mode to raise the cash and free the space is already familiar.

What's the deal with Monsters on the prowl #19? $800 :whatthe: I know it was one of only two in 9.6 but $800 :whatthe:

I think that IS the deal with it. 1 of 2 in 9.6. People are paying up for highest graded.

The high prices on the reprint books actually make more sense to me than some of the prices being paid for highest graded ASM's and such. ASM is much more prevalent and available in high grade, both slabbed and raw. In almost 20 years of CGC grading books, only 2 MOTP 19 have hit 9.6 with nothing higher. Even if that were to triple in the next few years, that still isn't very many copies. Reprint book I know but if you want a 9.6, you don't have a lot of options. A Spidey 109 for example can be found pretty easily, isn't a key of any sort and still sells for huge money.

Yes, the reprint issues are very scarce in high grade, but the question remains as to whether the demand is and will continue to be there for them in ultra high grade.  So while the Monsters on the Prowl #19 Fantucchio copy is a fantastic top census example, it's also the case that the new cover art is bland and the interior story forgettable.

This book didn't have the benefit of a Gil Kane cover, unfortunately. Personally, I think Kane's cover art makes a lot of these books far more desirable than they would have been otherwise.

Even though Kane went to the same well for a lot of these covers, they were usually pretty sweet.

By the way, Kane penciled 115 out of the 388 Picture Frame covers. That's 115 covers in 14 months.
