damaged inside pages

how much does damage to inside pages affect a comic's grade?

i'm asking because alot of the comics i've been buying recently seem to always have some sort of defect on the inside, i'm talking about new comics printed on glossy paper, which is the main format right now

for example, i bought action comics 602 this week, i spent forever in the comic shop and finally found a PERFECT copy, an absolute gem!

then i take it home and the last 3 pages have creases in them! it sort of looks like a tear and its about in the middle of the last 2 pages, it's not noticeable at ALL but its still there, i only found it because i happened to be looking at them directly under a desklamp and the light hit it on an angle

i'm just collecting for myself, i cant afford to get anything graded and my comics arent worth enough to justify it, and i dont really ever plan on selling them, but i do take pride in having my comics be as close to mint as they possibly can be, especially the new ones and im just curious how this sort of deffect affects the grade? is this considered a minor defect? keep in mind that the comic is otherwise PERFECT

other defects i've been noticing lately (and not so lately):

-"dirt" on the cover (example: secret wars 1 that came out this week, if you look closely at the cover you can kinda see dirt, although its hard to tell if its ink because of the foil embossed cover)..is this dirt or dullness from rubbing against other comics during shipping?!?

-the infamous spine corner usage, where it peels a bit and shows white

-cover indentations: i notice this in the marvel deluxe formats like the ones used for hulk: gray and 1602...looking at an angle in the light you see a very SLIGHT indentation in the cover, its baaarely noticeable...

i was just wondering how much these defects would affect grading in cgc and everyone else's opinion....

Well, there's damage, and then there's printing errors. CGC doesn't seem to care much about printing errors, which include miscuts, miswraps, wrinkling, distributor ink splash, maverick pages, missed staples, etc. The collector cares about things like that though. I wouldn't expect a book with printing errors to sell for as much as a book without any, even if CGC grants both the same grade.

Damage is a different matter. Tears, bashed corners, surface indentations, etc are all things that can happen just getting the books to your local comic shop. Also, LCS employees might be very careless. I find it relatively unusual for books right off the rack to contain any serious problems. If I consistently found that to be the case, I'd look for another place to shop.
