? What glue is archivelly safe?

I have in my collection some books with glue on the spine or sealed tears,which glues are archivelly safe & what glues are not? The glues that are not safe how would you be able to tell if you had glue that wasn't archivelly safe.

Archivally safe glues:

 

-Wheat or rice starch paste, (made from powders - cooked with water.)

 

-Methyl Cellulose (dissolved in water)

 

That's about all archival glues there are.

 

I don't know how to recognize is dried glue archivally safe though.

I'd say the easiest way to tell is when it starts to damge the comic.

 

Which, of course, is too late.

 

Until you do find out, you might want to isolate such comics in an easy to get to box. Then maybe check on the condition every cple - 6 months.
