? What glue is archivelly safe?

3 posts in this topic

I have in my collection some books with glue on the spine or sealed tears, which glues are archivelly safe & what glues are not? The glues that are not safe how would you be able to tell if you had glue that wasn't archivelly safe.

Thanks, Ray

Archivally safe glues:

-Wheat or rice starch paste, (made from powders - cooked with water.)

-Methyl Cellulose (dissolved in water)

That's about all archival glues there are.

I don't know how to recognize is dried glue archivally safe though. confused.gif
