Turnaround times?

2 posts in this topic

Since CGC began it seems that Economy tier has always been backed up to at least 3 months, and at some point as long as 6 months. Now the age of Magazine grading is here, and the economy tier hasnt really moved since it's release.

With the amount on money made from mass submissions, does this not justify more staff to cope with the work?

And do the people that mass submit modern comics at a discount in exchange for faster turnaround times effect the speed that others are being graded?

I say this not out of frustration, but because more and more people on these boards are choosing NOT to submit because of the wait, so this in effect is losing more money, and some comics do not justify the extra $20 for the next level.

The Economy tier was on-time for about 14 months.

Yes, more staff would help. The problem is that training takes at least 1 or 2 months (for encapsulation & grading, the 2 areas that need help the most). So any hiring we do, the results won’t be seen for a couple of months. Also, more employees means we might have to pass the cost along to our customers and we don't want to do that.

Yes, mass submissions affect our daily business schedule. Believe us, we want to get back on track. We want our turn-around times to be under control. It may not appear so, but we are working very hard and making headway.

No one at CGC is happy about our turn around times. Our customers deserve the best certification available, complete with the highest quality tamper evident and archival holder in our industry. The volume of our daily submissions proves the trust that our industry has in Comics Guaranty and that trust is something we do not take lightly. It takes time for comics to be correctly inspected for restoration, pages counted, and graded properly. We will not rush this process just to make a few extra bucks, if that means we lose a little business, so be it.
