So there's a Rockford 35 and 37. Anyone know of any other copies from the collection ?

There is a CBCS Tec 39 9.2 from the Rockford collection that I know of. :o

The single highest CGC graded copy is the Nova Scotia 9.0 copy.

Isn't the Rockford Tec 27 in a CBCS case as well?

Yes, it use to be a CGC 5.5 but was resubmitted to CBCS and is now a 6.0.

It exists. Here is verification that was in a CGC holder graded as a 5.5:

Here is a picture of it in it's CBCS holder:

You got me there. doh! I dont recall Mark Wilson or anyone saying there was a Rockford 27. I will e-mail Mark he found the collection.

I would be curious what Mark has to say.

PM sent.

Hey, the rest of us are curious too.

The answer is only for true collectors of early Detectives in high grade...uh, wait!

Here is part of his e-mail.

Yes, there was a Rockford Detective #27 and it eventually was graded by

CGC as a FN 6.0 blue label.

It was never mine though, as it was part of the deal that allowed me to get

the collection.I just held it for a week.

Yes, there was #27 - #117 (maybe higher), missing only a couple of later issues.

Take care

mark

I really miss the good old times we had back in the day.

He was really honest and was smart in knowing what to buy back then,

Wish i learned more from him.

We're talking about Mark Wilson, from PGCMint !? The guy who manipulated and ruined countless books ?

There are 3 sides to a story Peter. His side, someone else side. then the truth.

I new this guy for years he was honest as they get and treated people fair.

Yes he restored books but always up front on that. Yes he ruined a lot of books but in the 80s if you had a Superman 1 in good, Had it restored to fine than you got the fine price for the book thats how it was back then. I dont know what else was going on after the 80s but he was honest and fair as far as i saw.

Yes for a time around the Sothebys auctions, restoring keys was the profitable way to go with say, a VG copy. But the story with Mark was he couldn't resist "fixing" the books, even some Rockfords… even after it was no longer the thing to do…. and others were pleading with him to ignore the urge to perfect them...

I lost contact with him in the late 80s. I understand little more now on what Peter was saying Thank you.

I can't recall if it was the Costanza or the Cole Shave thread ( 2 maybe 3 years back), but many fingers were pointed at him for screwing up books by shifting spine wear to the back thereby turning books into POS.

This activity has apparently since stopped.

Long read
