AMC announced today the renewal of "The Walking Dead" for a 13-episode second season. Since debuting Sunday, October 31, "The Walking Dead" has broken ratings records, with the series reaching more Adults 18-49 than any other show in the history of cable television.

 

Today's announcement also includes Fox International Channels' (FIC) global renewal for a second season, following record-breaking premiere ratings in 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. "The Walking Dead" was the highest-rated original series premiere ever to air on FIC simultaneously worldwide.

 

"The 'Dead' has spread!" said Charlie Collier, President, AMC. "No other cable series has ever attracted as many Adults 18-49 as 'The Walking Dead.' This reaffirms viewers' hunger for premium television on basic cable. We are so proud to be bringing back 'The Dead' again, across the globe."

 

"I wish all programming decisions were no brainers like this one," said Sharon Tal Yguado, SVP Scripted Programming. "'The Walking Dead' is a TV masterpiece on so many levels. We want at least 10 seasons, if not more. Kudos to AMC!"

 

AMC's "The Walking Dead" is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project and three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) serves as writer, director and executive producer. Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk), chairman of Valhalla Motion Pictures, serves as Executive Producer. David Alpert from Circle of Confusion and Charles "Chic" Eglee ("Dexter," "The Shield," "Dark Angel") serve as Executive Producers.

 

"The Walking Dead" tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The comic goes on to explore the challenges of life in a world overrun by zombies who take a toll on the survivors, and sometimes the interpersonal conflicts present a greater danger to their continuing survival than the zombies that roam the country. Over time, the characters are changed by the constant exposure to death and some grow willing to do anything to survive.

 

Shot on location in Atlanta, "The Walking Dead" is led by a cast that includes Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Jon Bernthal as Shane Walsh, Sarah Wayne Callies as Lori Grimes, Laurie Holden as Andrea, Jeffrey DeMunn as Dale, Steven Yeun as Glen, Emma Bell as Amy and Chandler Riggs as Carl Grimes

I've got most of the same likes and gripes(climbing rocking using zombies) as the rest of you. I still liked the episode but the one thing really bothering me is Laurie Holden as Andrea...she just doesn't feel like Andrea to me at all. She's too old and sounds like a soap opera queen. My secret hope is that with the departures from the comic, which I love, will be that the sisters switch places :devil:

An early announcement was made today regarding The Walking Dead's DVD and Blu-Ray release.

 

It appears Starz/Anchor Bay are handling distribution for the entire first season which will set you back about $49.99.

 

Exact specs and special features have not been revealed. Also stay tuned for a release date.

 

The Walking Dead, seen on AMC, airs its third episode this Sunday

That's awesome news. A long running series would be amazing in terms of character development.

 

However, I think I just heard the people of Atlanta's downtown area just simultaneously and collectively cry out in pain.

WTF, I know this is just a tv show, but come on.

 

(yes I'm anal about details like that, I also really hate it when who ever shots a gun closes their eyes)

The rock seems to be bothering everyone but Morgan's wife remembering where she lives, being able to use steps to get the the front door and using the door knob to try and enter the house doesn't even get a blip on the radar.

What ever skunk breath...

 

Besides T-dog (hurts just saying that) the rock and gun thing I actually like this episode a lot more than ep1.

 

It felt like it was over like THAT (snaps fingers)

 

The guy playing Glenn is perfect (thumbs u

 

There is hope yet...

One thing though, why is it they can use the N word but not the F word (shrug)

OK, watching episode #2...comments:

 

Agree with alot of boardies who already posted this...Zombie using a rock to try and bust through the glass door? Really? Zombies running and climbing fences?!? Lori acting like a porn star getting it dirty style? Come on!!!

 

"There are only two kinds, dark meat and white meat"...classic!

 

Andrea and Glenn are cast perfectly. Loving the show, just with they weren't taking some much creative liberty with re-writing the classic 'zombie'.

I viewed the rock as possible... maybe one zombie in the group was a former rocket scientist, but the zombies, who were climbing the fence, were moving a little too fast. Overall, many of the walkers were moving faster than I imagined possible.

 

I still am very pleased with the show and I expect it to steadily get better.

It was the last place she saw food so she kept going back doh! (shrug)I thought that was kind of lame as well but its not like she picked up a rock & tried to smash open the front door :P

 

Opening a door is something people do every day so yeah I can actually see a zombie remembering how to do it were they to come across a door knob! Now going back to the same house everyday is indeed strange! Where do the zombies all disappear to as well in the day time ?! (shrug)
