This is a little north of you, but I used to tag along on a Seafood route a couple times a month that stopped in Independence ... near Galax. It was really cool out that way. A little north of that is Smith Mountain, where the real life inspiration for the Walton's came from... I know, I'm dating myself  GOD BLESS...
