FAN EXPO CANADA REVEALS A COLOSSAL 2011!

>> EXTRA DAY ADDED!

In response to the shows overwhelming popularity, we are pleased to announce that Fan Expo Canada 2011 will now expand to FOUR BIG DAYS of fun and excitement! It will take place from AUGUST 25th TO 28th, 2011.

>> MORE TIME TO ENJOY!

We will also be extending the show hours each day to allow more time, more screenings, more panels and more fun!

Thursday 2PM - 9PM (2PM for VIPs/Deluxe, 4PM for daily admission)

Friday 10AM - 8PM

Saturday 10AM - 8PM

Sunday 10AM - 6PM

That's a whopping 13 hours added to the schedule over last year's 20 (22 for VIPs).

>> MORE SPACE, MORE CAPACITY – 50% BIGGER!

Fan Expo Canada will now take over for the first time ever, the ENTIRE SOUTH BUILDING at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre! At over 400 000 square feet, this will be the biggest Fan Expo Canada EVER!

Does this mean last year's nightmare ticket pick-up line on Friday will now be on Thursday? :baiting:

lol

In all seriousness it's great that you are adding a day, and expanding the show floor space, but what's being done about ticket pick-up?

Tickets don't go on sale until the summer so that's a future announcement, but there's been a lot of discussion and meetings and it's my understanding that at the very least the box office will be open a lot earlier than 2 hours before the con opens on Thursday for pick-up of weekend passes.

Well box office was supposed to open two hours earlier last year, but it ended up being only 45 minutes just before VIP/Deluxe entrance and there were not enough people at the booth to handle ticket exchange.

That's where the fail happened last year.

The issue there was a prop car (from the tv show Supernatural) arriving late Friday and was not in place. For insurance reasons we are not allowed to open any of the box offices (which were on the same show floor - separated only by pipe and drape) while vehicles are still moving around on the show floor.

Nevertheless, based on the length of time it took to process weekend passes, the feeling is that 2 hours (even if it had opened on time) is not enough. Good thing about South is that the box office is on a completely different level and we have areas in which to allow people to line up outside of the exhibition hall once they get their tickets.

Something that was not made clear in the news... while we have contacted dealers to let them know about the change in days and hours, any exhibitors (dealers, artists alley) who rebooked back in August will not see an increase in their fees for 2011 for the extra day.

A Thursday start is good for me, as long as dealers are all there that day but the ability to pick up tickets prior, preferably a day at least before and not hours before the doors open, is very important in things going smoothly.

Decoupling the two things (obtaining prepaid tickets and entry) would prevent what happened last year. Once tickets are in hand (at the very least for VIPs) entry should be faster and more efficient. I hope that counterfeiting is not the obstacle that prevents something like this.
