I found a pawn broker that will pawn comics.

I was out last nite at the opening of a new club one of my former workers opened and right next store was a pawn shop that had a sign that said 'We loan money on almost anything, and will by everything( proper id required).

Looking in the window, I was surprised to see a beat up raw Silver Surfer 1 and a CGC Conan 1 in 6.0 in a showcase, along with what appeared to be a few stacks of comics. Another showcase seemed to be sports cards.

I called them today and they said to bring in some comics and their expert would examine them. He said they would generally loan about 10-15% of the value.

Going to go Monday if things calm down this weekend.

I'm not looking to pawn anything, just get an idea what value they put on some books. Going to bring some GA Timelys, and some SA Marvel/DC. I'm going to bring a couple of restored books to see if they catch them. I'm not pawning them even if they don't catch the resto, just curious if they do.

I saw an episode of Pawn Stars where someone brought in a box full of 90's drek and Rick gave him 70 bucks for it. They were worth about a buck fiddy.

Thats one of only two times I've seen them overpay or an item The other was when the son paid something like $100 for a copy of a contract for The Who to perform at Woodstock. Said contract was included in every copy of "Live At Leeds", which sold hundreds of thousands of copies.

Im sure it was staged and they knew it was fake..It just makes for a little better television.

There was another where big hoss bought a Coke sign that was a modern reproduction. Set him back about $100 I think. I don't know anything about Coke memorabilia, but even I could tell that sign was a reproduction/replica.

One of the main sports memorabilia 'customers' on that show is in reality a taxi driver/bail bondsman in LV. Producers thought he looked right for the part. A few weeks ago a guy they called "Drew" brought in an old book...I've known the guy for 20+ years and he said for being a reality show, there wasn't much reality in what actually transpired.

Shows like this and Auction Hunters are recreating scenes, not filming live.

I like the pawn show out of Detroit more. One day someone is going to shoot the place up (if it hasn't happened already) and that will make for some terrifying reality TV.

Hardcore Pawn

It's enjoyable too (for very different reasons).

I vaguely remember an episode where the owners all bought handguns for self defense.

Maybe we'll see a shootout? (shrug)

Even Storage Wars? Then again, it's a bit odd that the same 4 groups are always bidding against eachother when there are like 100 others at the auctions.

Hester or whatever his name is is really annoying. Everything is "worth" a bundle to him...I'd love to see him sell stuff for what he values it at for the purposes of the show, he's like 5X-15X over on some of this stuff.

That's a huge complaint of mine about the show.

It's all speculation until he actually has cash in hand from a sale.

I find it hard to believe that some of those people aren't putting on a show for the cameras, but I guess they want to be on TV
