I picked up this War Stories #5 (actually #1) at Terry’s show on Sunday. Lower grade but hard to believe a cool 1942 war cover like this would go so cheap.

What does the indica ink on the interior read as far as numbering goes?? Was reading it shows as #25 with the thought that it might have originally been intended for something else (Four Color?).

The indica is simple. It reads number 5, published by Dell Publications, 1942.

Thanks for checking. I was curious after seeing the following on the GCD (https://www.comics.org/issue/1887/):

Copyright, 1942, by Dell Publishing Company, Inc.
Though #5 is on the cover, this is actually listed as #25 in the indicia. Possibly originally intended as Four Color #25? Indicia numbering noted by and possible source of error suggested by Jon Ingersoll, December 2008, via GCD Errors list.
