Armando Huerta art, Chaos and Bad Girl comics

17 posts in this topic

Hi. I'm mostly a Bronze guy and don't make it over here to Modern very much, but I still have an interest in Bad Girl comics from the 90s. Heck, I mean really, would you rather look at muscled up men in tights or big bosomed sexy women in tights?

Although I'm not much of a reader, I collected these books for the art, particularly for the covers. Chaos Comics! was always my favorite as their covers, especially on the Premium issues were spectacular. Too bad they went out of business. I think the end of the Bad Girl craze was finally buried with their demise. My Chaos Lady Death, Purgatori, and Bad Kitty comics are still among my favorites.

But there is another artist that I do not believe many people are aware of, Armando Huerta. Many of you guys may remember the low quality Double Impact comics from the mid-90s. But after the initial two volumes of Double Impact were published, High Impact Studios hired an unknown Mexican artist whose name was Armando Huerta. He went on to paint some of the best covers I have ever seen on any Modern comics, ever. Since most of his work (including covers) was on the extremely explicit side of adult content these issues were printed in very small runs, usually 2,000 - 5,000 each. Yup, all kinds of variant covers and so on. Anyway, my favorite Moderns from the 1990s to present are books containing Armando Huerta covers and art. They are still very hard to find and published by High Impact/Another Bad Creation (ABC). I'd like to know if any of you guys collect these, or if any of you are interested in ANY Bad Girl comics for that matter.

Below is a copy of one of Huerta's tame covers. There are only a few that are fit to print in these forums. -----Sid 590017-2069.jpg

Why are they called bad girl comics anyway?

Hmmm, not much response to this thread.

These Huerta cover books are so cool that I really think people are missing out. I'd like to hear from any other collectors out there, if there are any. Here is another very tame one. Most of these would require much more than one small piece of paper to cover up the "naughty bits".

Maybe you've discovered the problem...

Armando Huerta is TOO good...

When you can draw realistic naughty bits in comic books,

you've created a totally different kind of collectible.

Comic collectors in general aren't "in it for the porn".

As good as Huerta is... it crosses a line to say you're a Huerta collector...

and I would guess by the lack of responses to your posts... most guys

around hear aren't crossing that line.

Valiant, I can see your point. I'm not a porn guy, and I find porn films boring actually. However, I do like realistic porn art in comics. And being a comic collector, any high quality realistic "comic porn" is cool by me. There is really not that much high quality adult material out there, at least not of this realistic high quality. Knowing how comic guys are, and the popularity of the Babe Test thread and so on, I thought there would be more interest in this.

I'm still at the point where I believe that so few people are aware of these Huerta books that not much interest could have been developed. I betcha' that if Modern collectors were to come across a dozen or so of these books at a con or LCS that many would get interested real quick. At least that's what happened to me instantly when I first came upon these. I had never heard of them. A dealer I bought $200 worth of London Night Studios comics from threw in about 20 of these High Impact/ABC books for free. I was absolutely blown away by these undiscovered gems. Still am. confused-smiley-013.gif -------Sid

I hate to say it, but that's HORRIBLE ART.

It ranks down there with black velvet paintings, heavy metal album covers, and stuff peoples' brothers-in-law airbrush on the sides of their vans.

And I hate to say it, but I agree. His art is kind of cool in a cheesy sort of way, but the women aren't attractive to me and it's a little too over the top for my tastes.

Nothing wrong with that. Everybody has their own tastes. I like it because it is more realistic. That is why I always thought Kirby's art sucked. Very unrealistic. No matter what the genre is, I have always felt that unless you are drawing humor, the more realistic the better. Proportions and shapes should be accurate with some exceptions. I've always liked Olivia, Boris Vallejo and that sort. Of course they don't draw comics, but when an artist of that quality DOES do comics I feel as if it's a treat. Some of the above covers are not my favorite either but the better ones are mostly adult. Huerta's better work is more like the last cover that I posted above. Now THAT is my kind of art. -----Sid
