Why doesn't CGC grade certain comics?

Wow. This is fun. People collect comics for many reasons, and one reason is not better nor worse than another. I did collect comics as a youth, primarily to read and then set aside. I now collect comics because of the art and investment value - and I really don't see what other value a slabbed book could possibly have, other than for the cover art and investment, considering that they can never be opened. A slabbed book is worth significantly more than a raw book - simply because people are willing to pay more for a proven high grade. Therefore, a raw book has no value to me because I collect for investment - though I do see the covers alone as being a piece of fine art - and a raw book unprotected by the case will always receive some damage over time, reducing its value instead of raising in value. As far as PGX versus CGC, I greatly prefer CGC, and currently have no PGXs in my collection - which is about to change. As far as monetary worth of PGX verses CGC - based on what people are willing to pay on eBay - the same PGX book does tend to sell for slightly less than the same CGC book, but only slightly. I hate that I will have to resort to PGX, but when a simple number on top of a locked case raises the value of a book (whether that number is provided by CGC or PGX) I will continue to collect only slabbed books.

Yeah. I won't buy a PGX either - but I also won't add a book to my collection unless it's graded. Any book that isn't graded might as well be thrown in the trash as far as I'm concerned. I guess I'm a comic snob. .

CGC thanks god for comic collectors like you.

That actually crossed my mind, but I figured I would probably end up with a colored label that I don't want. Just for the record, I have made a final decision about what to do with them. I really don't want any PGX in my collection, and I really don't care about raw books once I have read them, and since CGC can't do anything with them, I will list them on eBay and pass them on to someone who doesn't mind PGX or raw. It's just really sad that CGC isn't able to figure out a way to case these, because many of them have really beautiful cover art.

I too have Jay Co. comics and museum editions I would love to be graded. It seems like it would be a benefit to CGC to come up with a way to do this and not damage a book . I don't like the word can't . There is usually a solution to a problem if you put your mind to it. Yes the cost would probably be more but we usually pay a premium price for these comics so I would not mind  the extra charge.

They did grade them during a small window when they introduced the new cases, without the inner well.

When that ship went down and the put the inner well back, they ceased grading them again.
