Rocket Raccoon - Hulk #271 (May 1982) Marvel Preview 7

:makepoint:

Marvel Preview was a black-and-white comics magazine published by Magazine Management for 14 issues and the affiliated Marvel Comics Group for 10 issues.

Does a magazine appearance count though? (shrug)

The Psylocke entries are incorrect. Should be as follows:

– Captain Britain v1 #8: first appearance of Betsy Braddock (not Psylocke);

– The Daredevils #3: Betsy is re-joined with Brian and now working for S.T.R.I.K.E.'s Psi Division; she explains the reason for her purple-dyed hair to Brian;

– Captain Britain v2 #12-13: is the first Betsy as Captain Britain, where villain Slaymaster deprives her of her sight;

– New Mutants Annual #2: Betsy is kidnapped by Mojo which gives her artificial eyes and is first called Psylocke.

Hellboy – San Diego Comic Con Comics #2 (1993) in color Next Men #21 (1994)

Actually 1st Hellboy is dime press #4 (predates SDCC #2 by 3 months)

Someone should tell Mignola that. He doesn't even mention Dime Press 4 in Hellboy Library 1 or Art of Hellboy HC. :baiting:

Hellboy – San Diego Comic Con Comics #2 (1993) in color Next Men #21 (1994)

Although miscategorized by many as his 1st appearance, don't forget Dime Press 4, which contains the 1st protoype appearance.

The drawing on the cover of Dime Press was done while Hellboy was in the works, so it is mostly a "preliminary" representation done in a composition scene with Mignola's admirer, italian artist Nicola Mari to a character which was still "unborn" (This "brown and white Hellboy" is shown with an equally caricaturized Nathan Never: both characters have altered features as Nathan Never is depicted as a sort of devil).

Definitely the official first appearance is San Diego Comic Con Comics #2, and Dime Press just shows a Hellboy prototype on the cover, so if you are a die-hard completist you should have it, but it’s just the cover.

Since he is only on the cover, this is one of those books that makes for a great CGC candidate for ease of display.
