X-Men 64

What is the deal with this book?

Is it just me, or is this book damn near impossible to find in VF+ or better? And if you can find anything it is so damn expensive, its not even worth looking at.

I've looked for quite some time now, and have yet to find anything in high grade - except for this week - a cgc 9.4 curator copy is up on ebay.

I know Metropolis has a 9.4 Winipeg copy as well - but that curator is gonna go for around $400 - and the Winnipeg copy is listed at almost $500.

So is the first appearance of Sunfire THAT popular that prices go so high - or is it that high grade copies are so rare that anything in high grade is huge multiples of guide?

Compare 64 with other books from the same era, worth roughly the same(OS)(relatively)

X-Men 58: http://www.cgccomics.com/poplookup/grades_standard.asp?title=X%2DMen+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++&issue=58+++++&year=1969

FF 100: http://www.cgccomics.com/poplookup/grades_standard.asp?title=Fantastic+Four++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++&issue=100++++&year=1970

Are there just fewer high grade copies out there? I know the cgc census is not an extremely accurate gauge to what is out there - but damn... It's submission is nearly half of X-Men 58, and less than half of FF 100... This book puzzles me.

My guess? Sunfire is an early AZN super"hero"(?) so the sheer amount of AZN people out there who are comic collectors have brought the demand up on this book incredibly which is why the price is so high.

Yeah, but look how many Silver age GLs there are featuring "Pie-Face". When I auction these, I never see winners with the name Lee, Wang, Fong, or Dong!! And we're talking about a featured AZN character that played an integral part in MANY stories, issue after issue!!! On the other hand, Mark Wilson used to say that a great majority of his buyers on Golden Age WW 2 covers depicting Kamikazee pilots were Japanese-Americans.
