Curious as to people's thoughts on  Bucky's cameo on the cover--you like or no likey ?  Why ?

I've never preferred Bucky on the cover as it is, but I feel Goodman signed off on Bucky in a good effort to rally support (hence, Sentinels of Liberty Club) amongst the kid's/teens at that time for the war...

I always figured it was a response to Robin in terms of assisting with sales.  He's a big enough deal that CGC lists him in the label.  Would be cool if they put in parenthesis (Winter Soldier)  How well known/popular is Bucky these days ?

Sure, Goodman was the little guy in the field and was always trying to measure up sales with DC and Fawcett, but since Cap was a patriotic war superhero,  that made Bucky a little extra special (so hoped Goodman) than Robin.

Bucky would kick Robin's green undies (just like Kato would have if Burt Ward hadn't raised a stink ala the 60s TV show :D

And they had the good sense to put pants on Bucky.

Apologies for the veer-off and anti-Boy Blunder post :foryou:

Is having the Winter Soldier on the cover make this book more attractive  to the young collector in 10-20 years?

Knowing that it's the 1st app. of Bucky Barnes, the eventual Winter Soldier definitely has appeal. I also think Captain America: The Winter Soldier was the best film to come out of the MCU. That doesn't hurt either.

There is a lot of urban legend around the Batman/Green Hornet crossover during their run in the 60s.  Below is a little excerpt from a book about different TV tropes.   When you search for it, there are tons of stories and such.

There are also many stories where Bruce Lee during the shooting acted like he was really going to use his skills to kick Ward's behind since Ward had been bragging about how good he himself was at martial arts.  Lee didn't speak at all before the shooting and stayed very stoic and evidently really scared Ward into thinking he was going to be Robin, the Bloodied Blunder.  All of this is up to debate but I don't think there is any doubt Bruce Lee would have sent Ward home with a "who's your daddy now, pretty boy?" look.

As for Robin, I totally understand the reasoning for adding him with Bats but for me a dark, solitary Bats in the best.  Although the 50s Bats with the sci-fi and more oddballish stories with both Bats Robin are some of my favorites.

By the way, did anyone know that Bruce Lee was considered for the role that David Carradine got in the "Kung Fu"Tv show.  That would have been pretty interesting with him in that role.

Robin is still a dweeb though lol

Whoa !   Thanks for the explanation and the excerpt !  Interesting !  Robin is tougher than Kato but Lee is much tougher than Ward :)

I was looking at the low grade Blue Cap 1 coming up for auction on CC.  Does the cover right edge look trimmed to anyone ?  I'm always thrown off by the words by Cap's red boot---I always assume if there are only 2 dots after the narration of Cap punching Hitler it is trimmed (ie . . )  Any insight into this ??

I would arribute that to the less than perfect printing/cutting techniques of the era.

Any thoughts to the tape on the 1.5 CC copy?  Seems like it was graded when tape “helped” the grade. Is it a 1.0 with detached cover in today’s grading standards?

At that grade level the tape isn't helping anything and is an allowable defect either way.  Detached covers are allowed up to a 4.0 I believe.

I think Bucky looks like a kirby drawing (from the time).

As for the age of Bucky, idk.  I haven't caught up on the whole retconned winter soldier thing.  If he was also some sort of special agent at the time, and not the "kid" Cap thought he was then there's no telling the age.
