TRUE BLOOD Star To Play 'Jimmy Olsen' In Upcoming SUPERGIRL TV Series

-------------------

Following the news that Whiplash actress Melissa Benoist will play Supergirl in the CBS series of the same name, the next major casting addition has been made in the form of Mehcad Brooks. He's not a huge star, but is best known for starring in Desperate Housewives and True Blood.

-------------------

However, it's the official description of the character which should be more worrying as it doesn't sound all that much like Jimmy regardless of his race! You see, Supergirl's version of Jimmy is described as a "smart, worldly photographer for CatCo, the media company where Kara works. He has recently been living and working in National City, though the reason is still a secret, and his salt-of-the-earth nature quickly piques Kara’s interest."

Identity Of First Villain (Who "Has Battled Kara's Cousin") In SUPERGIRL TV Series Revealed

Which iconic DC Comics villain will Supergirl be battling it out with in the first episode of the upcoming CBS series? Um, the Lumberjack? (we don't know who he is either) According to TV Line, he'll first appear in the pilot episode of the show which stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Danvers and Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen. Apparently, they're now looking for an actor similar to, "Rory McCann, the 6-foot-6 actor from Game of Thrones".

Regardless, the description they give is very interesting as it reveals that he's a "big, burly monster of a man, who has battled Kara’s cousin -that's SUPERMAN! - :o in the past and shows up to ascertain her level of power, on behalf of an unseen superior." So Superman DOES exist in this world, and there will obviously be some references to him.

I think she'd be more appropriate to play Power Girl. :o

Why the hell don't we have a jaw drop smiley for situations like this?

Power Girl with a regional British accent? Interesting... ;)

I guess she could fake an American accent... but anyone remember Michelle Ryan as the Bionic Woman...? (shrug) EXACTLY!

SUPERGIRL Will Wear A Costume Her Neighbor Made For Her

--------------------

The actor in the videos below is reading for the part of Winslow 'Wynn' Schott. TV Line's character breakdown described him as a "twentysomething tech whiz/Comic-Con stalwart toils for CatCo as a programmer, unaware of his own (toying?) potential."

He also is said to carry a torch for Kara (who will be played by Melissa Benoist), aka Supergirl, who lives next door to him. The first video is a scene that illustrates Wynn's crush for Kara - before he finds out she is Supergirl.

Oh yes, that's the other thing, TV Line said he wouldn't be aware of Kara's secret, but in the second video he already knows of her powers and is the person Kara goes to with her issues. I guess he'll be her Cisco/Felicity, sort of. And it is revealed in that second video that Supergirl will wear and cape and that Wynn will sew her a superhero suit.

--------------------

It looks like the audition videos have already been taken down.

SUPERGIRL Casts Laura Benanti As 'Alura Zor-El'

--------------------

Tony Award winner Laura Benanti (Nashville, Nurse Jackie, The Playboy Club, Law And Order: SVU) has been cast as Supergirl's Mom, Alura, in the pilot for Greg Berlanti's small-screen take on the DC Comics superhero. Deadline describe the character as "a strong noblewoman", who's "wisdom and guidance echoes across space and time, proving invaluable on Kara’s journey toward becoming Supergirl."

SUPERMAN Confirmed To Make An Appearance In Upcoming SUPERGIRL TV Series

---------------------

Apparently those applying must be, "5’11 or taller and be Square Jawed and have a ripped physique". Confirmation comes from the fact that it mentions that the successful applicant with be a body double for an "iconic DC Comics superhero" and that they should use "SUPERMAN" in the subject line. That means the Man of Steel will more than likely just be seen from the neck down or from a distance as they obviously don't want to interfere with what's going on in the DC Cinematic Universe.

---------------------

Why wouldn't they use Henry Cavill? He even says he wants to play the character anywhere he can.

I'll never understand their desire to make the tv and movie worlds completely separate. Especially when many of the actors on both sides seem happy to play their characters in any capacity.

And DC didn't seem too concerned about interference when they announced a different movie Flash shortly after the premiere of the tv show. :screwy:
