Here is a spooky page from my copy of FAMOUS FUNNIES # 26 from September 1936.

It refers to the Captain of the Hindenburg, who 'never had a serious accident'.

8 months later he died when the Hindenburg went down in May 1937.

Although Max Pruss was the commanding officer of the last flight of the Hindenburg, Captain Lehmann was the most senior officer on board, but was there only as an observer. He was fatally burned when the ship caught fire at Lakehurst on 6 May 1937 and died the following day. It was initially believed that Lehmann would recover from his injuries; he was scheduled to be transferred to the hospital at Rockefeller University for further treatment until he took a sudden turn for the worse the afternoon before his death.

Talk about this comic book page tempting fate or what hm

Cool post.

My Grandmother was working as a nurse at Fitkin Hospital in Neptune, NJ when this accident occurred. The accident scene was 25 miles away over the primitive roads of the time and she always talked about the horrific condition of the people who came in for treatment. I remember driving by the dirigible hangars back in the late seventies; I'm not sure if they still exist today.

A lot of people died from the crash impact, and others walked away without a scratch. Many were horrifically burned to death because they were on the side of the ship that the strong wind was blowing toward, and others were spared simply by being out of the wind so to speak. Altogether a bizarre and momentous event in history, and this page appeared in all innocence just eight months before in a comic book. One of the reasons why I love comic books, they are full of history in many different forms.

Not exactly odd, unusual or funny, though kind of funny in a way to me actually. It just stuck out to me going through my issues of Fight Against Crime. No wonder people went nuts over comics at the time lol
