It Looks Like Lexi Alexander May Direct An Episode of Wynonna Earp Next Season

Wynonna Earp, the Syfy series based on Beau Smith's supernatural Western comic book series of the same name, recently got renewed for a second season, and it looks like Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander might be directing one of those episodes.

Alexander, while answering questions with fans tonight on Twitter, was asked, "Can you please direct an episode of Wynonna Earp?"

"This is not how TV works. It's not a buffet I can choose from," Alexander tweeted back. "Showrunners choose who they want directing."

That's when the user who had asked her about Wynonna Earp, producer Emily Andras, clarified for her, "I am the showrunner, and I think you're exceptional. But Twitter not time or place."

That's too funny. It sounds like the Marvel talent scout asking to see a young artist's work, and being told to leave him alone.

Wynonna Earp Renewed for Season 3 At Syfy

Quote

Wynonna Earp has officially been renewed for a third season by SyFy. The show had a breakout first season and has shown real growth (and major improvements) in its second year. Starring Melanie Scrofano, the series is a unique expansion of the legend of Wyatt Earp. The demon hunting family has been through quite a lot, and with this latest reveal of a baby on the way, it looks like things just got a lot more complicated.

IDW Issues New Statement on 'Wynonna Earp' Season 4

Quote

Without providing much in the way of details, IDW Entertainment -- the film and TV sister-company of comic book publisher IDW Publishing -- released a statement today promising fans of the hit comic book adaptation Wynonna Earp that they are committed to making a fourth season of the series happen. Wynonna Earp, which was set to be in production by now, has not yet been able to roll cameras, reportedly because of a cash flow problem on IDW's side that makes it impossible to pay cast, crew, and other expenses related to production. In the statement, IDW assures the fans that they are working on a solution.

Fans of the series have not only worked to make #FightForWynonna trend on social media, but have pooled money to buy billboard space in Times Square dedicated to saving the series. SYFY, which airs Wynonna Earp, confirmed that they are still interested and waiting on news from IDW. Some rumors even suggest that SYFY had ordered two seasons, not one, with the show's most recent renewal.

Earpers rejoice! Not only will Wynonna Earp be returning this year for the long awaited season 4, but on Thursday April 9 Syfy is offering a special treat. For Throwback Thursday, Syfy will be airing the entire first season – but with a twist. Viewers will have the chance to “Hang In And Geek Out” with the cast and creator of Wynonna Earp during the marathon.

Following the hard fought battle to save Wynonna Earp fans have been eagerly waiting for the newest season, but it looks like the wait will be a bit longer. The global COVID-19 pandemic has caused a halt in production for television and film throughout the world and that includes Wynonna Earp.

Creator Emily Andras has assured fans that despite the slightly longer wait we will be seeing season 4 because let’s be honest what’s a few more months. Andras and the cast of Wynonna Earp are well known for live tweeting with fans during the episodes when they air. During this time of social distancing and stay at home orders they have been live tweeting repeat episodes as they air on Syfy. But, April 9 will be taking this to the next level.

On Thursday April 9, Syfy will have a Wynonna Earp marathon airing all 13 episodes of the first season from 6am-7pm ET. This time the cast and creator will not just be live tweeting during the episodes, instead fans will get an extra special treat. Creator Emily Andras and series stars Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Kat Barrell, and Varun Saranga (who did not join the cast until season 2) will be watching along with fans during the broadcast.

The cast and creator will be on screen through what looks like a Zoom call to give episode commentary which will include behind the scenes tidbits and sharing fun memories from the first season. Shamier Anderson who was a cast member in the first three seasons will not be a part of this special event. This is an unexpected treat that could help lessen the sting of a longer wait for the new season.

The final six episodes of the beloved drama from Emily Andras will return in March.

It's the end of the road for Wynonna Earp.

The genre drama from creator Emily Andras will come to an end when season four returns to Syfy in March with its final six episodes. The series, which is produced by IDW Entertainment, will return March 5 at 10 p.m., with its series finale bowing April 9.

"I’d like to thank our wonderful cast and crew, all of whom were instrumental in bringing Wynonna Earp to our loyal and passionate audience,” said creator and showrunner Emily Andras. "We couldn’t be prouder of these last six episodes on Syfy, and are thrilled to share them with our beloved fans, who have changed our lives forever. I have been honored to tell Wynonna and her family's story, and along with Seven24, Cineflix and CTV Sci-Fi, are hopeful we can continue to share their inspiring tales in the future."

The decision to end the series comes after season four was derailed by a lack of funding from producers IDW Entertainment (Netflix's Locke & Key). NBCUniversal-owned Syfy, which pays a licensing fee to air the Canadian series domestically, contributed additional funding to help IDW get the beloved series starring Melanie Scrofano back on track. Canadian distributor Space did the same, though Syfy remains the biggest financial partner in the show. Given IDW's ownership of the franchise, it was not possible for Syfy to produce Wynonna Earp on its own as it does not hold the rights to the show based on the comic created by Beau Smith.

As part of the July 2019 deal that got Wynonna Earp back on track, IDW Entertainment — an offshoot of the comic book company IDW Publishing — teamed with Cineflix Studios as a co-producer on the series. Cineflix Rights sold all four seasons of Wynonna Earp internationally, which helped stabilize funding issues that originally derailed the show from its planned 2019 return.
