DEADPOOL 2 Reshoots Will Reportedly Add More Cable & Domino After Positive Reception At Test Screenings

Quote

Reshoots for Deadpool 2 will supposedly be adding more Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beets) after the characters' positive reception during early screenings. This will most likely stifle rumors that the additional photography was due to the film getting bad reviews after test screenings.

Early last month, Brolin announced that he was back on set for Deadpool 2 reshoots. No one viewed the matter as a cause for concern when the actor shared the news. However, earlier this week, after supposed negative reactions to the film during test screenings, fans speculated that this was the reason behind the reshoots. On top of the newly surfaced positive reactions to the film as a whole; this new information seems to thwart that conjecture.

Collider EIC Steve Weintraub went on air yesterday to acknowledge rumors regarding the reshoots, citing multiple sources who were present during Fox’s test screenings for the film:

"Both crowds in these screenings said they love Josh Brolin as Cable, they love Domino, but that they would like to see more of both characters in the movie. This is obviously not talking about other things that we’re not allowed to talk about… The two main things were Cable, Domino, everyone loved both characters, they wanted to see more. So when everyone in an audience gives notes and says ‘we want more Domino, we want more Cable,’ the smart play for the studio is, especially in the competitive summer is, ‘okay, how can we do that? how can we add these characters?’ So what happened was in February or whenever it was, they did additional photography, where, guess what, they added Cable, or more Cable and they added more Domino. And so that’s the main thing about the additional photography. There was no trainwreck!"

I keep hearing contradicting stories about the re-shoots.  I'm sure the initial screening wasn't all cotton candy and Fox is putting the positive "giving the audience more of what they want" spin.  But history tells us there should be a red flag for a re-shoot this massive (if the rumors are true about the size).

Btw...does anybody think Zazie Beets' parents are a fan of the anime Trigun?!?!?!

You are right about there being a divide. But why would the EIC of Collider speak up on the positive side based on his discussions with those that actually attended the test screening? He's not getting money from Fox.

Now those that are leaning towards the negative are basing this on Fox's response to some of the negative posts. The one reporter, when contacted by Fox to back off, turns out never even attended a test screening. Yet folks are standing behind him as there being something there if Fox told him to stop posting negative details.

I can believe in the news test screenings confirmed more Cable and Domino screen time. Especially after Collider's EIC noting how high the screen results are.

Let's hope this leads to a Deadpool 2 China opening.

DEADPOOL (Finally) Set To Premiere In China At The Beijing International Film Festival

After being denied a release date in China two years ago, it looks like 20th Century Fox has finally been able to secure a release for the R-rated Deadpool in the Middle Kingdom.

Variety has learned that the 2016 blockbuster, Deadpool, will finally premiere in China next month during the Beijing International Film Festival, which, this year, will run from April 15th to April 22nd.

According to their report, the film will screen unedited, with their source definitively stating that "All festival films should play in the original version,” which, considering how strict Chinese regulators tend to be, is a pretty major win for a film that is filled to the brim with R-rated material typically unsuited for the mainstream audience.

While it's unlikely that this premiere will contribute much, if anything, to the film's $783.1 million global box office haul, it may have some positive consequences for Deadpool 2, which has yet-to-be-confirmed for a China release date. If the first film was approved and is received well, maybe the upcoming sequel will also get approved by regulators, possibly even early enough to get a day-and-date release on May 18th.

Will 'Deadpool 2' Play In China This Summer?

Variety is reporting that 20th Century Fox's Deadpool will be premiering in China as part of this year's Bejing International Film Festival. The fest runs from April 15 to April 22 and will play in the "Film Panorama" section, which is comprised of "outstanding, classic and rarely seen films." This year it will include the black-and-white version of Logan, the first and second X-Men trilogies, Avatar, Titanic, Get Out, It, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Seven Samurai. Some of those films have played in China, but some (like It and Deadpool) have not.

The inclusion is... curious because Tim Miller's Deadpool didn't play in China during its blockbuster theatrical run two years ago. The R-rated and very violent, openly sexual and cheerfully profane action comedy earned a whopping $763 million worldwide without the benefit of Chinese box office, a 3D bump or that PG-13 rating. So, speculation alert: Does Deadpool getting a big festival premiere mean that Fox might try to sneak Deadpool 2 into China this summer?

Assuming that Deadpool 2 doesn't A) go big in China and end up closer to Black Panther ($97 million-and-counting) or Logan ($106m) or B) play in 3D in selected overseas territories. Again, this is total speculation, but it is not beyond the realm of reason that Fox and friends might craft a slightly modified version of the Deadpool sequel that might pass muster with Chinese censors. Plenty of Hollywood flicks play in China with edits or changes anyway. Artistic liberty aside, what is the qualitative harm of releasing a slightly softer version of Deadpool 2 for China or elsewhere as long as David Leitch and friends get their preferred version for domestic and related overseas territories?

Maybe Deadpool got picked to play at this year's Bejing festival just because it made a good companion piece with Logan. But if we find out in a month or so that Deadpool 2 will be opening day-and-date in North America and China, well, don't be that shocked. Just because Deadpool 2 doesn't need China to be a big hit doesn't mean it won't gladly take the money if at all possible. This will be a continuing story, hopefully, one filled with plot twists, intrigue but not too much romance. Deadpool 2 opens on May 18 in North America. Whether or not it opens in China this summer, in 2D or 3D, is a mystery yet to be solved.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: 'Deadpool 2' Outscores Original in Test Screenings (Exclusive)

Quote

Deadpool 2, which doesn't open until May 18, is already scoring high marks. The Fox film received as high as 98 in recent test screenings, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The Ryan Reynolds-fronted sequel has been tested three times, with the scores for the first two screenings coming in at 91 and 97. The final test, which occurred in Dallas, tested two separate cuts simultaneously, which scored a 98 and a 94. The 98-scoring cut is the version the team is using, a source with direct knowledge told THR.

The crew attended the final screenings in Dallas, and a source in the audience of the 98 screening describing the environment to THR as being electric and akin to watching the Super Bowl. It's worth noting the highest test screening the original Deadpool received was a 91, according to insiders. The film went on to gross $783 million worldwide and stands as the highest-grossing X-Men movie of all time.

Studios conduct test screenings of their movies by recruiting audiences, who are shown a cut of the film and asked to rate it using boxes marked excellent, very good, good, fair, and poor. Studios also conduct followup questionnaires and discussions about the film.

Deadpool 2 underwent reshoots — six days' worth last month in Vancouver — to add more of what test screening audiences enjoyed. That's three days fewer than those done for 2016's Deadpool. There was also two hours' worth of work recently in Los Angeles for a secret cameo.

This sounds fantastic!

Cameo? hm

I'll throw a dart and say Fassbender Magneto.

I was re-watching X-Men: Days of Future Past the other day. That movie is so solid. Especially the Hugh Jackman portrayal of Wolverine, Quicksilver and Fassbender's Magneto.

Would love to see any of those three to show up.
