Jack Chick is DEAD!!!!!

18 posts in this topic

His art studio/printing press is out near Rialto, California (outside LA). I went one time trying to get some OA, knocked on the door. Nobody answered.
That's strange because I have never seen a chick tract in real life. I think I saw some of his regular comics in the bargain bin at the comic shop that used to be downtown Rialto, might have bought one, I had a lot of weird Christian comics back then. But never seen a tract.

Wow, I saw the tracts many times in 1970's when I was a young boy. The tracts diminished into 1980's then I haven't seen one in 1990's ever since.

I always found them at the laundromat before my dad finally bought her the new laundry and dryer at my old house.

Tracts

I normally don't throw old comic books away but I was petrified to throw them away so I would be punished. Just be smart enough. Just left there where I found. Let them pick up without a sin that I would commit. That was a long time ago! Yes, those tracts impacted my life even through I am not a Christian but I use my good judgement. I don't forget the tracts easily.

I was substitute teaching last year and someone was distributing them, probably outside the school, to the students. They were all over the place. The principal decided that they were hate literature and that the students should throw them away. I am sure that many did. Anyway, at least as of last year, they were alive and well and being foisted upon impressionable minds.

Fear not! Good news!: Fred Carter drew the majority of the realistic Looking Chic tracks and he is still alive! Chic drew the more cartoony looking tracks. So, there's still time for that OA!

I love jack chic's stuff. Nobody else could link Satanism, Dungeons & Dragons, horoscope columns, gay people, the Pope, rock and roll and secular humanism.

I got a brand new Jack Chick tract in the mail today called "Look Out!" Being the completest, I noticed a number of new comics from Chick about a year ago and bought them from the source. Every three months or so, I get a new sample pack.

The pack came with a notice of Chick's death. It mentioned that Chick put together a staff that will continue making tracks in the same vein.

One of the newer comics essentially was Chick's autobiography. He had a rough childhood, which clearly shaped how he viewed the world.

Hmmmm..... I remember reading a few Chick tracts back in the 70's. I never paid much attention to his message accept to include him in the "mixed basket" of protestant believers out there in the world.

Here is his Wiki page. Seems to be a bit of a recluse or something. I wonder what he was worth ?

Chick has a Wikipedia page

A well meaning old lady I worked with at Bloomingdales in the eighties used to give me the Chick Crusader comics. Enjoyable as spiritual pornography, but really paranoid and scary. I can't see anyone being attracted to faith by these things. As Vincent DePaul said, you catch a lot more flies with honey than vinegar. But they are fascinating , and I can see why people would collect them.
