Did you ever feel like peeling the back cover sticker off too? I'm peeling both off of my US copy when it arrives.

She's arrived :)

Let's see what's under those stickers. Wish me luck. I'm going for a standard printed newsstand barcode under the UPC sticker..... :wishluck:

Morning :)

Independence Day #2 finally turned up today after an interminable wait:

2.thumb.jpg.0fb3cefd251d32d062abbdf9c59a7243.jpg

I'm not sure if number 'zero' will exist, to complete the set, but we'll see:

id2.thumb.PNG.f656bcc936c6733b6320d45f8fb1afaf.PNG

I haven't seen an interior shot of the ID4 Graphic Novel that I posted some pages back so am still unsure whether that will join the APV ranks. If it is an APV, it will likely sit outside of the comic APVs that I have documented anyway, on its own Graphic Novel tab on the spreadsheet, much like the magazines.

The ID2 brings us up to 1,305 confirmed comic copies:

Talking of magazines, the three Conan APV titles are finally complete following the appearance of Saga #56:

I also managed to find a price legible copy of Conan the Savage #9 and it is priced at $4.90:

Conan the Savage is remarkably scarce on eBay AUS, compared to its peer titles I find.

Anyway, one last opportunity to post the Conan gif:

See ya...

Conan the Savage, particularly the latter half of the run, is hard to track down period, not just the AUS versions.  You nearly double the price-per-page compared to Savage Sword of Conan when you restart the numbering because sales were already slipping, and it seems a lot of people just don't bother.  It took me quite a while to track down for such a short run.

That helps explain it Eric, thanks. I have multiple examples of the APVs for the other two Conan titles, but for the four CTS issues, three of them have only one image saved in the files and you can't even make out the prices on them. Scarce old books, they be.

A slightly better example of this one...

....here:

Alfs are very hard to come by too, it seems.

Now, I've enjoyed researching these books over the last few years, building on the original Spidey run that I put together ten years ago. Nothing last forever though and, from today, I will no longer be actively looking for new copies online or updating the numbers. There aren't that many left to find anyway and I don't think I've left any research stone unturned. To my handful of interested contributors I say - thank you :foryou:

....this one finally came up in my pre-set searches:

Only 3 Barkers left if my 'no AUS' April 1994 scenario plays out as expected for these four titles :

Two new Barbie's popped up in my pre-set eBay searches - one of each title:

8.thumb.jpg.8300dbe6ea7206e934a1ed3b48882150.jpg 22.thumb.jpg.85b5457b1d6d729e5f9eb105e33d2563.jpg

A largely uncollected comic character, hence the lack of available copies, but nice to see two more after such a long wait, especially a 'Fashion'. And their placement on the chart - slap bang in the middle of what could have been gaps by design - gives renewed hope for all the other surrounding issues.

1,308 confirmed APVs @nesqrick2 (my sole interested follower) :)

oh lord, another thing to go blind looking for, yay! I am not going to read this whole thread, but golly, what was the financial incentive for this? how many were they possibly selling a month per book, 200, 300, 500, 1000? I understand the UK, bigger country (and I see plenty of pence copies here, they are no doubt low print runs*, but not close to 30/35 cent variants), rains a lot, lots of indoor reading time, I can understand Canada .. the land of John Byrne and frozen comic nerds ... but Australians are out and about playing sports, doing outdoor stuff, riding kangaroos, cooking shrimp on the barbie, swilling fosters...I don't think of that being a place for comic nerdery.

* with that said, it occurs to me that unlike the U.S. where 50%+ of the copies at the newsstand went unsold and many were pulped, what happened in Canada, UK, and Australia? It would seen crazy to me to ship 1000 copies of some comic a billion miles away to Australia and then destroy unsold copies ... OTOH, these being hard to find (perhaps?) perhaps they had a very good sell through rate?

This is a fantastic set of posts and the list of Australian APV’s is really helpful.  It’s the definitive guide!  Is there anyway to get direct from Marvel a complete list of the AUS editions and numbers?  I tried to find a contact but there is just a general queries email for Marvel.com.

Thanks TK2. It was something to do for a while :)

I've added 3 more since my last post - 1,316 now - but I can't remember what they were. I think I'm going senile.

I doubt it. A while back, one of our Australian based thread posters indicated that Marvel were not aware the first wave books had even been made so I doubt they'd have any records. And even if they did, Marvel aren't a contactable organisation anymore, alas. Just a big old corporate machine now with no interest in responding to their readers.
