:wishluck:  Deadline does a list w/ 5 biggest $ losers at year end.  Back of the envelope, without taking ancillaries into account, it's $225-250MM in the hole.  May make 1/2 that back in video, TV, etc and residuals will likely be non-existent; so loss could be north of $100MM. Yikes, i must've plagiarized this through osmosis; given actual BO was even lower the loss will be higher than the article estimates.

Unreal...a Marvel backed movie, the X-Men no less, LOSING $100m+ when all is said and done.

I'm not defending the movie as it almost got what it deserved (if that makes any sense) but in this era of the MCU doing literal billions at the box office, it would stand to reason the X-Men SHOULD be able to ride the coattails.

All things being equal.

Must only be closely familiar with the fake Captain Marvel. lol

Well, with Disney taking care of the Skrulls and Blink so as to have no competitive likenesses...

Unfortunately, with those forced Act 3 changes the film didn't get a chance to deliver that space event content more fitting to the story.

X-MEN DARK PHOENIX CONCEPT ART REVEALS CAPTAIN MARVEL ENDING

Quote

As if we needed more evidence that Disney Fox sabotaged the X-Men Dark Phoenix movie, now concept art has hit the net revealing the original ending was going to feature Sophie Turner as the cosmically-powered Phoenix blasting off into space.

Concept artist Houston Shark reveals the stellar concept art for Dark Phoenixon Instagram noting the change: "Jean Grey (@sophiet) Blasting Off into Space. This shot for the final sequence was changed a bit in the released film. More concept art from @darkphoenixmovie2019 toe! #xmen #jeangrey #sophieturner#marvel #fox #phoenix #art#illustration #fire #conceptart."

Regarding the similarity with the Captain Marvel movie, the end of Captain Marvel also saw Brie Larson's Carol Danvers become cosmically-powered and "blast off into space."

The similarities don't end there as Tye Sheridan also recently revealed the X-Men Dark Phoenix movie was going to feature the same villains as the Captain Marvel movie, with the Skrulls.

Fox Studios was also billing Dark Phoenix as the first "Marvel" movie starring a female superhero, but that went to Brie Larson and Captain Marvel when theDark Phoenix release date was changed for the second or third time.

:(

But no worries. Disney is going to 'fix' the X-Men. So it's all good.

hm

(:

All things were not equal in this case. To include a senior Disney executive questioning why we use the term 'X-Men' nowadays, which may have influenced a line in the movie. Good times!

Disney presents...The X-Sapiens!

Lord save us from the Alonsos.  All of them...Victoria, Axel, Denzel’s character in “Training Day”...all of them.

No word yet on an Extended Cut or Alternate Cut version of the film to include that space-based third act. But on 9/17/19 Disney/Fox will be releasing the Theatrical Cut on bluray.

Plenty of time to include this as a stocking stuffer as part of the annual forum Christmas exchange.

Just because the movie might have had her flying around in space for the last few minutes, doesn't mean it still wouldn't have sucked. This was a joyless by-the-numbers super hero cash out film with a standard issue "special girl" and mailed in star performances throughout. Special Girl flying in space would have made very little difference IMO.

The Dark Phoenix concept artist, Houston Sharp, released more of the sketches associated with the original story planned for the film.

It looks like there was an alien fleet involved. Which seems much more aligned with the source material. I'd love to see this.
