Cheers Robert!

I believe that Brittany is going to post CGC's official position here in this thread in the next day or so - I may have misrepresented their intentions a little regarding the use of the "UK Edition" label in certain circumstances for non-price variants, which I'll let them explain rather than muddy the waters. But our new "UK/Canadian/Australian Price Variant" label position is secure.

On that, Matt advised this morning that:

"Starting Monday, we'll begin using the UK variant notation on all books in the grading room"

So I guess that you can dive in now Stephen! @Redshade

Let's wait for the official wording now guys eh? (and gals / canines) :headbang:

I've just remembered another reason why I've been holding off for so long: What's the latest news on the Newton rings problem?

Another one ticked off the indicia research wants list. Anyone got a pence copy of Journey into Mystery #58 or #59 they could post a copy of the indicia of by any chance? :wishluck:

Rommbu would be ever so pleased if so.

Lovely old comic. I've just been onto the GCD to remind myself what #58 and #59 look like and see that they only have cover images for the cents edition.

But I did notice that #43 has three variants. Did you know about this? I wonder what the indicia states on that middle copy.

They do have pence copies for JIM, which is what I'd like to see the indicias for Stephen

Good spot, TTA #43 does indeed have a no price variant:

Very cool. Must've been an intended pence copy as the date is missing. And the misprinting must be a TTA thing given the #16 I posted earlier.

Whoops! Blindness and senility are in a heated race to render me completely incompetent.

By the way that TTA #19 Pence variant is not yet featured in GCG but I suppose that you already knew that.

I was scanning my X-Men comics this past week and here are some of my favorites. The red covers especially. In the long run I want a cents and pence variant where possible, of the full run  :)

That's a wonderful collection mate. Very envious. " In the long run I want a cents and pence variant where possible, of the full run   ". That's what we all enjoy Dan, the thrill of the chase. That and knowing that these pence books are far far more scarce than their cents counterparts. I've had to sell a few of my grandchildren to Goblins before now to satisfy my Pence Variant craving.

Thanks, yea the pence are much scarcer worldwide but common as muck here! It'll be a pricey endeavour indeed finding them all in cents for me, often dreamt of the possibilities of a roadtrip to the states for the sights and the comics, just need a big wad of cash, that's the part eluding me :D

DC did it right not complicating things with price variants :) Where I have cents they have dirty great newsagent price stamps! Even where not, they were ruthless... Bullseye!

Yes I remember the old T&P 9d stamps in the very early 60s. DC did produce pence variants between 1978 and 1981. There were about eight or nine hundred of them. I am slowly trying to assemble said set.

Well I didn't know that. I only really go for silver age DC, Batman and Superman titles mainly. But then I have only been collecting a short time. Five or six years, tops. Was totally clueless to comics before then

I do wish I had them as a young lad, just never even saw them back then. Trying to make up for that now :)

With all of the hype and talk about newsstand variants and Canadian variants how are pence copies so overlooked? There are more key books and they are very limited, beat up and disrespected! The UK variant will one day be the top dog of the price variant heap!

Nice pence X-men Dan :headbang:

Some pence copies are indeed common here, yes, but many of the early ones are virtually non existent alas.

As for DC, there's a pence thread about them if you're interested. Check my profile page (about me) :)

CGC will begin labeling price variants for comics from the UK, Canada and Australia that fall into the Type 1A category as "variant" rather than "edition", starting Monday. The three terms below will be used accordingly:

  • UK Price Variant
  • Canadian Price Variant
  • Australian Price Variant

Foreign books that differ from the US versions in terms of page count, art, ads, etc. will still be labeled as "edition". Other foreign books that have no US counterpart will be labeled as being from that particular country. Given the large and varied number of international comics in the market, CGC will continue its research to insure these books are accurately categorized. We continue to welcome any feedback, which can be directed to me via email: bmcmanus@cgccomics.com
