zzutak
Facts (supported by receipts): An "ordinary" (non mega-key) comic with a detached and completely split cover will generally receive a grade of CGC 1.0 FR. Think of CGC 1.0 as the "default" or most probable grade for a "common" issue. Grades of CGC 0.5 PR are reserved for specimens with significant pieces out along the spine (or other major defects). Grades of CGC 1.5 FR/GD are generally awarded only to extremely rare and/or valuable Golden Age specimens or to books lucky enough to have been reviewed by a relatively lenient CGC Grader. Grades of CGC 1.8 GD- are as rare as hen's teeth -- in fact, I've only seen one in the past 23+ years (on a true early-GA mega-key in otherwise gorgeous condition). grendelbo
Spoiler Also, it seems 1.8 is more common with completely split spines and only one cover is detached. Paul Kosnik, Yorick and zzutak 2
