U can't just draw a naked girl, name it MJ and call it comic art!

I see soo many pieces of neked or semi-neked women and they attribute it to a comic character. Most times there isn't anything in the drawing that indicates its the character in question, except its a female and has the correct hair colour.

Gonna need links to get to the bottom of this. LOTS of links.

EDIT: Can we get this topic pinned?

I browse eBaylot - most of that sort of listing is just something to wade through. I'm amazed at how much of it there is, and I'm amazed at how bad most of it is as well. Someone must be buying it though.

Not that it will stop anybody.

I fundamentally disagree with this post.  You certainly can. In fact, I just did!

You can do it with any other female character -- Gwen Stacy, Batgirl, Ms. Marvel, Mystique, etc.   You just can't do it with MJ.   Not sure why.

Yeah. There is some seriously ratchet stuff to wade through on the bay.

It's a cottage industry. Lightbox a porn image. Color in hair (and maybe pubes). CAF galleries full of the stuff. Some of those galleries are from people who have actually been buying it, and not simply purveyors of it themselves, looking for attention. That's the part that kills me.

Oh yeah, and also much higher view counts than pretty much anything in galleries belonging to myself or those that I follow.
So, somebody is into it.

I don't get it. Nudes are great and all but there is some horrible art out there and people buy it!

Who buys this junk. Some for it looks like a random high school notebook doodle.

Then what do these buyers do with it? Have it framed and hang them up around the house? Err I take that back I don't want to know.

Chris Vickers has a Mary Jane gallery on CAF.  Mostly comprising of his own fanboy cr@ppy drawings.  His stuff is so bad, it's worth checking-out just for the sheer awfulness of the drawings . . . I kid you not, Tiger!

Oh man i already regret I am responding to this post.

me personally I hate all the junk on eBay. You will have to look for original art in between 50 postings of crappy stuff.

frustrating.

but...here comes the but...apparently there is a market for this stuff.

years ago I debated with Bill Cox from CAF why they allow all the crappy and even quite hardcore stuff to be posted.

the answer in simple terms, the most used search words on CAF were not superhero names....if you guys know what I mean.

just sayin....not agreeing !!

Clearly, you can because hundreds do. Some are so pleased with what they've drawn, they offer their work for sale. The true complaint is about the quality of the art. If David Finch decided to draw a naked MJ, he'd have a line of buyers wanting to discuss pricing. If Skottie Young had done the same, the drawing would be adorable and go for solid money. Considering his own proclivities, Bruce Timm is probably drawing a naked MJ at this very moment.

If he is, I get first dibs.
