What grade would you give the TAR #44?

It was advertised as Fine by the seller.  I'm not sure if I agree with that.  We'll see, as I'm sending the book to CGC.

Classic Modern GGA

If you're a gold GGA collector, there are some comics that you have to have in your collection.  Like Archie 50.  (My copy is not the best, but I'm glad I got it when I did as the price just keeps going up and up.)

The same is true for modern GGA covers.  There are some modern GGA covers that are must haves.  With modern though, you have to get 9.8 (or above).  Anything other than 9.8 for modern is a fail.  It makes for an interesting (and often, frustrating) collecting dynamic.

One classic modern GGA cover is Supergirl 23 with the great Adam Hughes cover.  I recently got my copy of Supergirl 23 after looking for years.  It's not that the comic is rare -- it definitely isn't -- but it took a while to find a seller who I could make a deal with.

So what are some other classic modern GGA covers?  It's hard, since (by definition) moderns comics haven't been around long enough to form a consensus.  Here are a few that I think should be classics.

I'm starting to see a pattern.  Kudos for the breadth of your collection.  I haven't bought a new comic since 1985 or so although I'm certainly liking what you own.

I actually think he graded it a VF. Didn’t look like a VF from the scans; wanted to know what it really is.

Yeah, I think you're right about that.  I don't think it's VF.  I'd be happy if it comes back FN.

Great photos, Mike.  You should shoot a walkthrough video of your comic book room to illustrate the full effect of all of this comic goodness...

That's a good idea, I'll have to do that sometime.

Statues

I collect statues.  I have to limit what I buy due to space reasons.  Recently I got this She Dragon statute.  Some of my other statue collection is in the background.

There are actually 2 versions.  Here they are together.

More Pics of My Comic Room

Nothing major going on in my collecting life.  Lately I haven't even checked out CC or CL; too expensive.  Mostly I've been buying from sales here, and my eBay saved searches.  Some quality pick ups, but nothing major.

I sent in some books to CGC a few weeks ago -- there's nothing more depressing than to have nothing at CGC (so nothing to look forward to), so I fixed that by sending in these books (which I needed to send in).  I have another group of comics that I'll be sending to CGC in a week or two.  I'm just waiting to receive a couple of comics from recent buys.

I regret not going to WW Chicago, but there was no way given family commitments.  I'm trying to figure out if I can get to Baltimore, if only for a day.  Online shopping is great, but there's nothing like a comic con.

On another topic, I'm trying to cut the cord on TV.  This is part of my pre-retirement plan to get my monthly expenses to as little as possible.  A major criteria is to be able to get local channels, if for no other reason than to get football.  But I want to get away from the extortion of cable and satellite, and rely solely on streaming via my Internet.  I've tried out Hulu, Sling and a few others.  All have been disappointing.  I'm now trying out YouTube TV, and I think it might be a keeper.  Updates to come.

Anyway, here are some pics of my comic room that I took this morning.  Thanks for reading.

Matt Baker?

On my list, there are 300 comics with covers by Matt (a few are reprints).  Most of my list is based on the Amash "Art of Glamour" book.  But I've also added some comics based on things I've read here and other places, as well as what CGC labels as "cover art by Matt Baker."

Here are 2 that fall into that latter category.  I would not have thought these covers were by Matt Baker.  Although I can convince myself they are, based on select elements of each (especially the Vooda).  What do you think, are they Bakers?

I feel the Zoot is not Baker at all i just don't see if in that cover.I would say the Vooda looks more like Baker in that cover an a least he had a hand in it. My 2 cents hm

That's my thinking too.
