Tracked down a bit of art history: Young Love #15 (1950)

Last year I took an art history class and learned about Richard Hamilton’s  collage titled “Just what is it that makes today’s home so different and appealing?”, which is considered the first piece of Pop Art.

In the collage is an ad for the comic Young Romance 26 used as a painting. I came across this article http://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/simonandkirby/archives/1051 which tracked the ad down to Young Love #15 (1950).

After a year of searching I finally found a copy on eBay;

Not sure if it’s worth getting slabbed in this condition (currently none in the census), but it’s still nice to own.

One purchase can be explained, two...you are now a romance collector.  Look into your heart, Luke, you know it to be true!

The next step in the art history class should have covered Lichtenstein swiping from comics, yes?  war and romance in particular

Not that finding the Prize Kirbys was easy, but finding the Lichtenstein DC's are both hard and expensive
