The Twilight Zone series to be rebooted at CBS All Access

During an earnings call with investors of CBS All Access, CBS boss Leslie Moonves revealed that the network has plans to reboot the legendary sci-fi TV series THE TWILIGHT ZONE! The new series will mark yet another major acquisition by way of the sci-fi genre, with the service's STAR TREK: DISCOVERY already delighting many fans of the long-running space exploration epic.

The streaming service has been ramping up its original series auspices, already airing Season 1 of The Good Wife spinoff The Good Fight starring Christine Baranksi. Moonves said CBS was aiming for the same kind of leveraging of classic TV as Star Trek: Discovery, which spurred strong signups when it premiered and has already been renewed for a second season.

He delivered the brief news flash as part of a discussion of the strides made by CBS All Access. He gave no details on the creative team for a new Twilight Zone, or when new episodes would be delivered.

The streaming service dominated both the company’s introductory remarks and the questions from analysts. Moonves positioned the Twilight Zone reboot as the latest example of the company’s strategy to produce its own shows and feed an increasing number of them to the streaming service.

“The good news is, the bet is paying off,” he said. Asked about how the company determines the right content for All Access, Moonves said, “The programming kind of needs to be more premium than it would be on CBS … It needs to be more specialized, needs to stand out.” All Access has drawn an audience that is 20 years younger than the average viewer of CBS, he added.

I knew this was coming. This is like CBS 2nd biggest IP after Star Trek.

I loved Twilight Zone as a kid and Rod Serling was a genious !! lots of those stories were original thoughts of his... he was always thinking ...... always talking..

i read that one day as a child Rod Serling and his family loaded up for a 3 hour drive to some relatives house, and the family had already made an agreement that if Rod started talking that they would let him keep talking and not interrupt him... well the story goes is that he talked non stop every single  minute of the trip without stopping and without realizing he was the only one talking !!!

The Twilight Zone is one of my favorite TV shows of all time, made all the more impressive when you learn that Serling himself wrote the majority of them.

But this could go either way.

The 1985 series was also a classic -- with some iconic episodes including "Shatterday," "Examination Day," "To See the Invisible Man,"Cold Hard Numbers," and "Button, Button."

But then the 2002 series (with Forrest Whitaker) was bunk.

In an effort to continue to expand its original content on its streaming service, CBS announced earlier this month that The Twilight Zone will be coming to CBS All Access. Most excitingly, today it was announced that the reboot hails from executive producers Jordan Peele, Simon Kinberg, and The Defenders and Daredevil showrunner Marco Ramirez. Peele will produce through his Monkeypaw Productions banner while Kinberg’s Genre Films will also produce.

In a statement, Peele cited the timeliness of Twilight Zone in today’s climate:

“Too many times this year it’s felt we were living in a twilight zone, and I can’t think of a better moment to reintroduce it to modern audiences.”
