Disney/Fox Talks
3 3

This is the most gangster move that Disney could make.  Basically they are saying, if you won't give us back the X-Men we will buy your company and mess on your front door and simply take our characters back and your sad jobs.

I wonder would Disney get the Simpsons, Planet of the Apes, Predator and Alien franchises as well from Fox?

hm

Yes - the proposed deal would give Disney all of those, as well as Modern Family, The X-Files, and Family Guy.

Yeah.

But it's more subtle than that. And _much_ bigger than playing for some comics characters.

This is more about Fox realizing they don't have the content to compete in streaming.

Fox eviscerated their IP when they sold Lucasfilm (Star Wars and Indiana Jones) to Disney.

Aliens: Covenant, Independence Day: Resurgence, and War for the Planet of the Apes all woefully underperformed.

Fox would rather sell now than make the R&D investments in a dedicated streaming service and high quality original small-screen content.

Now -- if you were *really* a conspiracy theorist you might think Disney intentionally tanked The Inhumans TV show to dissuade Fox from pursuing another Generation X or X-Men show of its own.

But I don't think that's the case -- this is about far more IP than just Marvel.

Most probably Disney and Fox had to pull back to assess all the offer details. Something this large isn't going to happen in one week. So hearing they were talking and then pulled back makes sense.

This is easily going to be a multi-billion dollar deal with this many franchises associated with the deal. Including the original Star Wars movie rights.

Yep. It definately be bigger than the 8 billion they spent for Star Wars/Marvel combined. So they probably did push back talks to assess a huge deal like this.

Also due to the size, the US government may take a much harder anti trust look at something this big.  Let alone the process of separating the various entities. Not just the money but the legal aspect are much more complicated here.

As for the price, my bet would be north of 10 billion.

Well whatever the final outcome for now the deal between the 2 companies is dead. How dead is the difference between comic book death and real death so we’ll just have to wait and see.

It was noted Fox’s entertainment section (which was the only part of Fox Disney was going to buy) was worth about 20-30 billion which Disney with a clean EBITA was in a good position now to buy.

It’s also noteworthy none of this had anything to do with Disney wanting the X-Men or anything else back for Marvel (that would have been a fringe benefit) but had everything to do with streaming because everyone wants to be in Netflix’s business.

The days have been numbered for TV networks and cable companies for some time now but as Millennials continue grow in the market as they age and generation Z is becoming the next teenage pocket of viewers all these companies are becoming desperate to stay on top of a very changing type of viewer/customer.

Expect more “shocking” deals to come.

Comcast Also Interested In Acquiring 21st Century Fox

Earlier this month, reports emerged that Disney was in talks to purchase portions of 21st Century Fox, but it looks like the House of Mouse will have some competition, as sources have revealed that Comcast has also expressed interest in the media company.

Comcast is mostly known as a cable provider, yet it also owns NBC Universal, so it's unclear what the company's motivations and future plans could be were they to purchase 21st Century Fox. Additionally, reports are unclear if Comcast would be interested in merely purchasing certain assets that belonged to Fox or if they were to seek ownership of the entire company.

Marvel

X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the latest in the saga and sequel to X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse, is set to hit theaters next November — but if a sale to Disney is made, it's likely the film would serve as the bowing out of the long-running franchise.

Hell they could use her powers to merge them into MCU and starts Phase 2

And the competitive list grows.

Sony Also Interested in Acquiring 21st Century Fox Assets

Quote

Sony Pictures Entertainment is reportedly interested in acquiring some of 21st Century Fox’s key assets. Though not much has developed from the reports of conversations between Disney and Fox, Sony is the latest studio to emerge as an interested party concerning the purchase of Fox’s film and television divisions.

Variety and THR are both reporting that Sony is looking into purchasing assets from 21st Century Fox – including the film division, 20th Century Fox. According to both publications, Sony has reached out to Fox to see which assets the company is interested in selling. A source inside Sony told THR that the company wants the same assets Disney wants, though this could change. Variety reports that the discussions are in the “very preliminary stages.” Verizon and Comcast have expressed an interest in Fox as well.

Disney Acquisition Of Fox Rumored To Be Gaining Steam

A new rumor suggests that talks have once again started picking up and that the Walt Disney Corporation could acquire the entertainment wings of their rival, further bolstering their media empire.

As part of Deadline's irregular column "Bart & Fleming," reporters Mike Fleming Jr. and Peter Bart discussed the possibility becoming ever more likely.

"The version I heard has the Murdoch clan keeping possession of sports and news properties, and the rest of TV and the film studio going to Disney," wrote Fleming. "Radio silence right now from both studios, and given how Disney made the Marvel and Lucasfilm deals under the cone of silence, if this happens we’ll probably only know it when it’s announced.

"It is certainly being talked about today. Not surprisingly, the reaction around town is not enthusiasm, because of the uncertainty that comes with potentially reducing a major studio to content generators under the Disney silo system."

‘X-Men’ Producer Wants Team To Be Part Of Marvel Cinematic Universe

Quote

Recently, Vanity Fair shared several in-depth pieces honoring the MCU on the cusp of its tenth anniversary. It was there X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner threw in her support to have the mutant icons team up with the Avengers in theaters.

“Well, I wish. I would love it,” she said. “I would love it. But it’s not for me to say.”

Feige also chimed in on the matter, and the Marvel Studios president refused to give fans hope where there is none.

“Well, the problem is whenever I say anything about it, it becomes 15 headlines. So would we like to? Yeah, of course,” Feige said, signaling his continued desire to get the X-Men back.

“Is there any movement toward it at all? No. Same thing. Same status.”

If the Justice Department is blocking AT&T and Warner merging and that isn't even a vertical merge which eliminates competition, I have a hard time believing they would allow Disney and Fox to merge because that does eliminate competition.
