BLACK WIDOW: THE MOVIE (TBD)

I don't know, I personally am not really jazzed about seeing this movie.  Since Avengers: Endgame tied everything up I am kind of feeling like jumping off the Marvel Movie Train.  The only Marvel movie coming out that I know for sure I will see (at home, not in a theater, not just this movie but any movie) will be Spider-Man 3 since I've seen the first two parts.

Looking at the slate of upcoming Marvel movies there really isn't anything they have announced that I fell I have to see at a theater.  I'm sure I'll eventually see them all through either streaming or renting, but there isn't one Marvel film on the horizon that will get me back in a theater.

You nailed it for me, too.

Funny, I remember folks saying the same exact thing about Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel.

Funny, as I don't remember this. I remember folks being excited to see this next range of characters moved forward, and with at least Guardians of the Galaxy the only concern is how they were going to pull off the space adventures.

Or is this one of those 'POOR MCU IS ALWAYS UNDERRATED BY EVERYONE BUT ME AND YOU ALL NOW REALIZE I WAS RIGHT' memories?

One of my best friends at the time, and myself, were super stoked to see the GotG 1st Trailer. One of my other best friends was like, "what's the deal with a comic movie involving a talking raccoon?" The trailer gave him enough content to show him why it'd be worth seeing.

After The Avengers, almost everyone was convinced that the MCU was an entertainment and money machine. Keep in mind that this was after The Winter Soldier, too...

Nationwide vaccination against COVID19 is on the way. A unified national COVID19 policy is also on the way which, though some will ignore, most will follow. We could be on the downhill trend of this pandemic by May 2021. And along with possible renewed confidence that we can see movies safely, Black Widow could be the film that saves the movie theater industry.

why stop there? If ScarJo announced she would be vaccinating people while wearing the Black Widow costume she could save the WORLD

Not even Blade?

I think quite a few people moved on after the last Avengers movie, because it felt.like a definitive ending in the same way Return of the King did, and I think the subsequent two and a half years hasn't changed that perception. I personally don't believe Marvel- or any film franchise where each new film needs to cost between 150 million-350 million- is going to be very influential for a long time.

Oh yes, this is easily my most anticipated Marvel movie. I know it won’t have the level of violence the originals had as it will most likely clock in at PG-13 but I think Marvel can work in a lot of stylish off-screen cutaways. Plus they got a powerhouse actor in Ali.

That's two good jokes in a row. You're on a roll!

It was a prediction dressed up in hyperbole, not a joke. The next big theater-only release for 2021 is Morbius in March, too soon I think for people to feel comfortable to go back to theaters and not big enough I think to really draw in the crowds, even if it's part of the Sony Venomverse. James Bond will bring a crowd in April, but I still don't think it'll big enough relatively speaking and still a little too soon for viewers to feel safe. That brings us to the Black Widow in May. It'll be warm for a lot of America. The vaccine should be really rolling by then. There's a chance the pandemic could be in the rearview mirror or at least look like it's further away than it actually is if you're using the side view mirror. Theaters will have really got their stuff together to make viewers feel safer by then.

I know you're done with the MCU, but that doesn't mean the world is. I predict the world will flock to theaters see the newest major MCU movie and that could singlehandedly save the movie theater industry.

As I said before, if BW made 10 billion dollars worldwide, it wouldn’t even be close to saving the theater industry. It will take a major effort of hundreds of quality films timed precisely as half of the population of the United States doesn’t care about Marvel or DC movies.

I don't mean Black Widow will monetarily save the movie industry with its box office alone. I mean it will be the movie that people may finally flock back to movie theaters for. And once we/they all come to the theater once and hopefully see that it's safe (and hopefully doesn't cause a new surge), then that could start the needed chain reaction for people to start coming back for the 2021 summer season and seeing the rest of the movies, and thus save the movie industry. Black Widow, I predict, will be that big bang catalyst to initially bring everyone back.

I wouldn't put that pressure on any film in 2021 as it assumes people will prioritize entertainment over safety. That would be a troubling outlook no matter who the studio or characters are.

The reality of the situation, like Oddball noted, is it is going to take more than a few movies and even the theater companies investing in solid protective practices to ease moviegoers back into the comfort of attending such events again. Disney nor Marvel are going to do this on its own just based on a given single film.

The golden opportunity for movie theaters is coming in five months. AMC, Regal, etc have five months to make a few more brick and mortar renovations and also communicate to the world that movie theaters can be safe. So yeah, Black Widow can't really do it alone, but if everyone else does their part, Black Widow could be the one single film on the horizon that brings EVERYONE back to the movies.
