SuperWorld comics live on Tuesdays at 6pm is a great show, good prices and Ted keeps the variety up.  They also do a giveaway for anyone attending.  On Thursday’s at 1pm Jose does a shorter show for them.

It'll be better if they allowed Joe to slap Jose during the show.

So I finally broke down and got Instagram not long ago (namely because I recently had my second child and to share pics with friends) and I noticed there is a PLETHORA of comic sellers/dealers on there.  Quite a few of them with really nice books as well.  Sharp photos, etc.

What do people think of this?  Of course I know there are likely some bad apples and poor graders but that is no different than ebay.

What say you all?  Do you use it to buy/sell?  Would you?  Seems like Insta could be a really good platform for comic dealings (though I know there is no way to moderate it... yet).

I find it slightly better then Facebook. I have a few buyers I buy from who do a good job grading and packing.

Whats different about Instagram is alot of seller want you to pay them F&F so they don't have
to pay taxes. I prefer not to give up my protection so I add some to cover their fees.

I avoid live sales I find their prices overvalued many times.

I don't participate in raffles and anyone how uses them I remove.

I watch several live auctions, I "try" to win several items in said live auctions but most of the time someone with some super internet speed or something beats me to the better books. For the most part, lots of the hotter books are selling for way over GPA or perceived market price. Even filler FF silver age gets snapped up quickly.

The platform is pretty good. I have sold several books on there this year, and none I listed for sale. I posts pictures of some favorites here and there and usually get a few people asking if I will sell them. I sold a Camp Okajima I didn't really plan on selling because of such a strong offer.

My IG id is @phillipkj4   if we are doing a registry.

Thank you sir. I don't usually post big books although I see a lot of people do. My non comic friends have no idea anyway.

I've already said my piece on the live sales so I won't repeat myself but the raffles are absolutely ridiculous in my opinion.  Especially the ones for mega keys.

There's like 16 mini raffles...Sub raffle!  Mini raffle!  Micro raffle!  Mini big raffle!  Micro sub 1!  Micro sub 2!  Big mini!

What... in the absolute hell.... is going on?  Its often spread out over weeks/months, you cant follow which posts are which, or whos in what, and what happens if someone bails?

To each their own but these are mind boggling to me.

I might reactivate IG...

I had great success over Facebook dividing the remainder of my GI Joe collection by a third...

Been hinting at things for awhile... since November... I think this is a year of a major cull.

Brain. Damage.

I guess I get the explanation that people are "getting a mega-key for a fraction of the cost," but they're also going to get exactly nothing most of the time they participate.  Imagine reducing your collecting experience to nothing but luck.  Just go to the casino.  At least you get free alcohol while you're gambling.

And exactly like gambling, the math is not on your side. The more raffles you play, the more you will revert to the mean. You will eventually end up with some comics that, when coupled with the losses from other raffles, you badly overpaid for.

I started an IG page to display my collection as a side-project during Covid.  My collecting used to be a private affair, but I have come to love the IG community.  I've also purchased several books from IG sellers and have not yet been disappointed as the legitimate ones are actively establishing themselves as good alternatives to online auctions.  Only caveat is that I want to buy more comics, not just to own, but to feed my IG page (@hardscrabble_comic_collection) and that's getting expensive.  Check out my page if you like Silver/Bronze/and some Copper & Modern Marvel slabs.
