For those that are not at all familiar with Instagram can someone explain how I could look up a particular CGC book on Instagram that I'm looking to buy? IG is an intriguing option but i wouldn't even know where to start as far as buying a comic book there?

Not to mention, there is only one photo, no description and in many cases no price listed. I mostly buy raw books. This doesn't look like a great venue for me.

Many books have multiple pictures.  Just scroll right (see those dots right under the picture?  That tells you how many pics are in that grouping).

Yeah, hit and miss with descriptions.  Not a big deal for graded but a deal breaker for raw agreed.

You familiar with hashtags?

Using the search function use hashtags like #cgccomicsforsale #cgc #comicsforsale etc

In terms of searching a SPECIFIC book, other than hashtaging it I wouldnt know.  Ex.  #Fantasticfour5

Yes thanks for responding. I'm familiar with hashtags. I tried that but it would take me forever to get through all those search results for the one I'm looking for. Just looking for an ASM 142 CGC. Thanks anyways!

No price tag bothers me more than anything else.  If you list a book for sale, don't say "accepting offers."  Just list a price you're comfortable with, and go from there.  You're selling the book, so you should be the one to list a price.  If you go to Home Depot to look for a lawnmower, the employee isn't going to tell you to give him your best offer on it.  There's a price tag, because they're selling it.  That's how that works in every other instance, so I don't know why comics would be different.

Now if I inquire about a book that you don't necessarily want to sell, it's completely acceptable to request an offer.

This.  I still ask the person who is selling it what the price is.  When they tell me to make an offer, I just say "I can't buy it and sell it".  In my experience, someone that is telling me to make an offer, is usually not ready to sell.  Just my experience.

Fishing for every red cent they can possibly get, then play buyers off each other.  I don't indulge that behavior.

It's rampant on IG and people are ok with losing money! xD

People love to gamble and gambling for key books is strangely satisfying.

I wouldn't mind it nearly as much if the final price the people running the raffle were getting didn't add up to double and triple the value of the book.  It's the most moronic thing I've ever seen.

Yea - that is not smart.  The few I was part of was very strict about only allowing a max of 20% over GPA.  But if you could get a hot book for 15% under GPA and raffled it for 20% over GPA then it was a good income source.  Too much drama and stress but it definetely was a thrill

I can see where getting lucky a couple of times can be addictive.  I know a guy that won a few bronze keys for under a hundred books (Hulk 181, Spidey 129) several times.  I just can't wrap my head around the obscene profit margin.  If it was like you said, making $1,200 on a $1k book, it would be easier to swallow.

Still not smart. In fact, participating in raffles where the sum is always over GPA guarantees you will lose money in the long run. The more you play the more mean (which is negative) regression sets in. The house always wins.

Are you telling me I shouldn't play roulette either?  Killjoy.

Are you playing roulette in comic form while staring at Instagram on your phone? If so, yes. Definitely yes.

At least casinos have other people and comped booze.

IG is an absolute gem. It provides incredible opportunities to buy and sell rarities that are NEVER offered on these boards.

Such as?

What’s w/ all the raffle nonsense? Used to see that on FB. Seems like a total scam.

The biggest books I own might be from raffles. But I wouldn't admit that of course. hm
