Calling all experts (or anyone really)... does this X-Men 1 look to be restored? Edit: verdict from CCS... 2nd Edit: ...and now CGC... 0

Honestly, I can't recall if I bought it restored or not... but I just get that vibe... perhaps one of y'all could quantify my in-depth analysis a bit more.

Probably, the vertical edge on front cover looks touched-up/colored over. Noticed at the line between purple ground and white sky. I think I see white and purple touchup there. Also whats that dark thing in the bottom left front cover corner?

Not sure what you're referring to there. But you're right about that line between purple and white.

  It lost the details of the hand.   It looks right to me.

It looks like your book has a water damage along the right edge. It may be an attempt to undo the damage.

It was repaired by CT.               I checked all unrestored books. Both have the same line unlikely on your book.

 

I suspected you have other CT in top left corner. The color doesn't match. This is your book. Do you notice the white edge was overshadowed by CT?  It's possible.

Maybe you have other CT in "X" in X-Men Title but I doubt it. It may be stains. All other letters have defects too.

If you need CCS to press your book, they can screen it for you.

I still envy that you have this book!!!

I figured this was restored, since this book unrestored and raw even back when I bought it (2002) would still have had a price tag I wouldn't have forgotten. LOL

The front cover absolutely needs a press. I'll have CCS screen it, but I doubt they can remove all the stuff you outlined. I'm still gonna slab it, though. Gotta provide full disclosure for the eventual buyer.

For some reason I bought 3 X-Men 1's back then... this one , the one in the PGM forum which is deteriorating as we speak (!), and an CGC 8.5 (R) book, which sadly was trimmed. Should have spent more on some AF15's instead, maybe... but I ain't complainin'.

Staple holes look a little enlarged, but I am kind of touchy about that lately...

Most of the purple above Iceman's hand is color touched.  The top left corner is infilled and color touched.  Most of the white on the free edge is color touched.  The top is probably trimmed, possibly the right edge also.  Hard to say much more without seeing it.

CCS can’t undo the resto... too much. I’ll still have it slabbed though. They did not recommend a press, which surprised me. We shall see about the grade.

Just wondering, Looking at the pictures of your X-Men 1...as you know I'm very new and dont have much experience...

is the restoration job done on your X-Men considered Professional and Good?

I have an ASM #1 restored and the restoration isnt even close to the quality of yours?

 

to a person with no experience like me, Your Books restoration looks amazing, But I may just have no clue what I'm looking at?

on a scale from 1 to 10, Is your books restoration like a 9 or 10 in terms of quality?

I don’t know. I’m no expert on the subject. I’ll know more once I get the book back with the grader notes. My AF15 and my JIM83 are IMHO good examples of top notch restoration.

Not much difference.  Your book may be fragile. They don't want to damage your book.

So, at least no trimming. Still a decent book, although the PLOD makes it more difficult to value.

All things considered, I would be happy with this result. The absence of trimming is benficial to the valuation. I'm a PQ junkie and the fact that the book got CR/OW would probably annoy me more than the Purple label.
