If you know the grade as well as other people is it really necessary to grade your books

Depends on the difference between raw sales and slabbed sales for that book in that condition.

One book from my stash... ASM #5 in VG- condition... sells raw for maybe $325. Sells slabbed for $525. Costs $40-ish to slab.

If I'm holding onto the book because I like it, no, I don't slab it.

If I'm selling it, I slab it because spending $40 to make $160 is a pretty good return.

If the buying and selling parties both agree on the condition? No.

Slabbing is for when buyers can't see the item before purchasing, or don't trust the opinion of the seller.
