Curious. Inquiring minds want to know why

Best guess is John was able to sell it privately and made an arrangement to pull it.  This would not be unprecedented based on a clients' long standing relationship with Heritage.

I think this is most likely the outcome.

It would be nice to have known the sale price.

Feb 2020 auction already has 2 Superman1 and 1 Batman1 listed.

Lovely 3.5 !

This is a lovely book, but based on the example of the HA Cap 36 posted a few pages back I'm suspicious whether the actual book's colors are really as electric as in this scan. Note that the CGC label in the scan above appears quite blindingly bright.

As a more general comment, when I was actively collecting early GA Supes I found it particularly difficult to gauge the true color of all the yellow background covers from scans (Superman #3, #5, #6, #9, #11 etc). Even a very dull yellow cover could still appear pretty zingy in the average scan.

Can a book be returned to Heritage because it doesn't match their scan in hand? I have recently returned two books from ebay because they didn't match the scans. Not a problem, because paypal always sides in the favor of the buyer. These were obviously "juiced" scans when I got the books and saw them in hand. Color is VERY important to me.

3 Universal copies of Superman 1 in the auction. Seriously !?

if you were ever on the fence on getting this book....this is time to buy it...great upside

And if you happen to own a copy of Supes 1 and was on the fence about consigning it to Heritage for auction.....this is definitely NOT the time to do it.....huge downside.  :tonofbricks:

Needless to say, if I was one of the consignors for these Supes 1, I would be totally   :censored: with what Heritage did here in terms of taking away one of the biggest selling points behind this book here.  Namely, it's apparent rarity relative to all of the other GA keys and instead showing its obvious ready availability to the other GA keys.  doh!

And I was about to cosign my 1.0 copy :p

Just got a $1000 book in that looks significantly duller than advertised. I'm all but done with Heritage because of it.

Me too.

You can't imagine my disappointment when I first discovered that original art was in black & white!

have to disagree with you on this one, sometimes it brings more buyers to the table just because there are 3 copies. I would not be upset if I was the consigner...Sup1 is a very in demand book...I think its a very strong 3.5 by the way.

you can but if you are gonna buy a book such as that one and you live near a HA auction site, you can always ask that the book be shipped there for your inspection.

That's what I was thinking - the "destination effect."  Aka Las Vegas analogy (more casino's = more gamblers).

Plus you will have guys bidding harder for the highest and others bidding on all three willing to take the concession prize.  My bet is they all do fine.
