The 9.0 went for $504 back in January. But I think this book presents better than the grade, and is one of the better covers of the series. Much better. I know it's a strong price, but as it is said sometimes on the boards - "if it comes down to it, I don't mind holding onto this one." For this colorful Quality, with a great splash and interior work, in a decent midgrade, I think if's worth the ask. Or close to it! Robert Mitchum and Jane Russell. Mitchum alone would be awesome, Russell as well. But both together? BOOM. This book is a photocover grail. Not up there with Marilyn, of course, but directly underneath. There are those who would love to have this book. I could find them if I were an IG kind of guy, but I'm not. So I'm stuck with youse guys (and Sha). I think this cover is AWESOME. At least the foreground characters, the chick in the background was phoned in. No graded copies. Fantastic Pike interior, with stippling or whatever the heck he was up to at the time. The Atlas romance bulllpen was extremely innovative in the 1953-1954 period. The composition is wonderful, the colors are deep and full, the gloss is incredible. Some technical defects have me drop the grade. A 1/2" tear in the upper left spine, see pic. A small 1" X 1/4" piece out of an interior page, see pic. A 1/2" tear on the bottom margin of an interior page, no pic. And finally, slight Light Tan border on the interior pages, but not the interior covers, not even bronze toning. Superior books can often have Cream or a little less PQ to the pages, I see it all the time. To CGC that doesn't affect the overall grade, but to me it does, so there you go. Mild mannered guy stands up to bully, girl's disdain changes to admiration, and there is some heavy laying down of "the law". The 50's are calling, they want their page back! Him: "You failed to notice that a man wasn't weak just because he was nice to you!" Her: "You were too nice! You let me boss you around...and I don't want that! I want you to TELL me!!" Powell did a lot of work. There are a lot of Powell OA pages you can get, covering many different genres, including romance. But this page is Powell at some of his artistic best, and besides timeless dialogue, includes a mighty Powell left (so rare!) haymaker right to the bully's breadbasket. Below is the printed page from the book of course, with the OA below it. Some whiteout as shown, in the border and in certain panels. If you need closeup pics of particular panels, just let me know.
