Popular Post Silver
It’s really a shame that Photobucket has left so many threads without scans after years of great posts. I want to restart the Brave and the Bold thread so we can get pictures that will last. While I would love to see everyone’s copies, I’m going to post all of my issues 1-120. I’m closing in on completing the run, I need two more issues to be complete 1-200. Brave and the Bold is a special series for me, It was the first title I ever collected! I started “collecting” them in 1974 by buying new issues as they came out. I was around 12 years old. While I really liked the Batman stories I absolutely fell in love with the Silent Knight and Viking Prince reprints that ran in the 100 pagers. My first pre-hero issue was a beat up copy of number 15 that is still a favorite today. I remember when I got it and loved the BIG logo! I never really set out to get a whole set. All of my copies from childhood were basically reader copies by today’s standards except 120-200 which I bought new. Slowly over the last 10-12 years I started replacing my low grade copies and searching for missing issue (I barely had any of the first 30). So here goes, I’ll post in order 1-120 minus the two I’m missing (you’ll see which ones those are 😂) and add a little color commentary along the way! Popular Post Silver
Owning a B&B 1 has always been a kind of grail to me. I never really thought I would get one. Then around 2008 I put a Hail Mary bid on one in an eBay auction and was pleasantly surprised to win it. I sent in in to be graded to add to the set, it’s a nice looking copy. This was ten raw. It’s a 7.0 OW. piper, Hepcat, tonytitan and 7 others
Popular Post Silver
Brave and the Bold #2. I think this is one of the more difficult to find issues of the pre-hero lot (which probably means the whole series). One board member here has a ridiculously nice copy I offered to buy a number of times but kept getting laughed at I ended up with this nice mid grade copy only in the last year. I’m glad I got it because a 7.0 came up a couple of months later and went for almost 3X as much! kagemusha7s, HuddyBee, 1950's war comics and 4 others
Popular Post JLA Brad
While I don't have all the issues from 1-200, I have managed to accumulate quite a few thus far. Here are my copies for issues 1-3. I have to echo Silver's comment on #2 - it is very hard to find in high grade. Well, I suppose that pretty much goes for all the pre-Suicide Squad issues. frozentundraguy, 1950's war comics, electricprune and 5 others
Popular Post JLA Brad
Only 29 copies of this issue have ever been graded by the CGC. Mine is the single highest graded on the census. I have no doubt that there are better non-graded copies out there, but until one of those people decides to share a scan, here you go. 1950's war comics, adamstrange, RickHigh and 7 others

Me too. One of the highlights of my Convention experience was to escort Mr & Mrs Irv Novak to a dinner in their honor. I was pleased to be able to say "thank you" to the artist of one of my favorite series, especially when I knew that was unlikely that anyone was going to point out this particular part of his distinguished career. That’s awesome. I would have liked that experience as well. Novick is one of my favorite artists too.
Silver
On to #5. I have a number 4 that is not as nice as Brad’s. I can’t remember where I got it though or how long I’ve had it. I just picked up this number 5 from a sale on the boards last month. This issue begins Robin Hood which if I recall was picked up from Quality Comics and just started it’s own DC run in it’s own title. I liked these stories, though not quite as well as Viking Prince and Silent Knight. Silver
BB 6. I bought this one years ago. Up until about a year ago I used ComicBase to track my collection (why I stopped and what I use now is a another story). ComicBase for some bizarre reason kept showing the value of BB 6 as some insane amount many multiple higher than the surrounding issues. I didn't have a copy at the time, but felt like I needed one ASAP since I had no clue why it was valued so high (like 3-4K in fine). I found this copy somewhere, most likely CLINK or Heritage and jumped on it, probably paid a few hundred. For awhile this was my lowest numbered issue, then I got the number 1. Anyways, nothing really special about this issue other the the fine people at ComicBase thought it was special electricprune and Math Teacher

I don't have one yet, and I think opportunities have been pretty much non-existent.
JLA Brad
So, I don't have a #6, but I do have a #7. It was one of a bunch of early B&B's I purchased in one transaction - one of my most favorite transactions as these books in high grade just don't come along very often. Silver
The number seven is a really great cover, I love the colors of the book and the two Silent Knights. I’m actually on my second copy of this one, a 7.0. My first copy was a 6.5. Why did I upgrade a 6.5 to a 7.0? I forgot I had the 6.5 🤣😂 That’s why lists and databases are so important, of course you have to refer to them too! Brad should post his number eight too since mine (while once) is his under copy. Ask and ye shall receive...my #8 - another Robin Hood cover - an upgrade I picked up last November. There isn't a finer copy graded by CGC on the census (although there are three others just below at a grade of 8.0) Math Teacher, Sarg, PopKulture and 1 other
Math Teacher
@Silver and @JLA Brad, If you have any undercopies that you would classify as readers (1.0 to 1.8), I'm looking for issues #2 - #4, #6 - #8, #14 - #15, #19, and #22.

JLA Brad
On to issue #9. Won this book last Fall - another great Silent Knight cover. It is really quite a treat when a high grade copy of these early issues becomes available. In this case, there is only 1 graded higher by CGC (an 8.5): electricprune and Math Teacher
Silver
My 9 is a really pretty 7.5. It’s a cover I really like due to the colors and the Silent Knight. I would post 10, but I know Brad has a pretty special copy of that issue. Edited July 28, 2020 by Silver

I think I read (maybe in an early Alter Ego or CBM) that Novack was somewhat stand-offish talk about his career and looked upon it as just a job. I looked for the article but couldn't find it; however, I did find this from Mark Evanier noting Novack's death - https://www.newsfromme.com/2004/10/15/irv-novick-r-i-p/ (There is more to the article than what I pasted below). "I was honored and frustrated to interview Irv on several convention panels over the years — an impossible task, for in front of an audience and microphone, he claimed to remember very little of his career and to have absolutely no fondness for any job or character over any other. Apart from a mild preference for working with his friend and neighbor, Bob Kanigher, he insisted it didn't matter. "I just drew what they gave me to draw," he'd say. "If it was Batman or Captain Storm or Flash…I didn't care." Some of his contemporaries would chide him for saying such things, for they'd seen the care and effort that went into Novick's pages…and in private, talking one-on-one with the man, you wouldn't get quite such a noncommittal attitude. And of course, you'd know it wasn't true when you looked at his art. I'm going to miss seeing him at conventions and trying with no success to get a decent answer out of the guy. He leaves behind an amazing body of top-notch comic illustration." I too loved his work, both GA and SA. Just curious if he was open and freely talked about his past work when you were with him?
