I'm thinking of cracking open this book and having it regraded. Was wondering what grade you guys think it might be and weather it might benefit from a press. I don't have a scanner that will scan graded books so hopefully the pictures do the book justice.

I am thinking the current grade is around ~5.0.

The book would improve with a clean and press. But not sure how much of that would translate into grade improvement.

Wait for opinions from more experienced members.

I thought around 5.0 as well. Maybe 5.5

Looks really dark as if it was stored in a hot attic for 50 years so can’t tell the condition😕😷

This could be due to the OP's photo-taking skills. Like I have any room to talk .....

What is the page quality of the book?

Appears to have heavy tanning, which could mean pages being slightly brittle. Spine also looks to have a lot of wear. 

Whoever works on this, if you do decide to have it cleaned and pressed, needs to have experience with these types of books. If not, you could wind up with a book with extensive water spots or a split spine.

I'll take some more photos and let you guys know the page quality as soon as I get home from work. I'll try to make sure they are as well lit as possible.

Book seems to have light tanning, 5.0 even unpressed is definitely reasonable.

Hard to tell through the slabs. 

I'll go 4.5 

I think the wear on the spine will hold it back. 

As an aside, this is one of my favorite SA covers.

4.0 might seem low but that dirt could move grade down by a lot

Hopefully these pics help a little. They are lit a bit better. The page quality is cream to off-white according to the slab.

Fixing the spine roll and removing the dirt may get the grade bump.  Again, heavy, not light tanning and possible brittle spine makes me leary of any attempt at a press.

For anyone curious the book is currently a PGX 4.5. I'm probably still gonna crack it open to get it graded by CGC since I prefer them. I'm curious to see what it will come back as for comparison between the two companies.

And the book is back! After a full press and 3 months of wait. It dropped down by a whole grade which is unfortunate, but it seems the price is rising on this book and I consider it to be a more accurate grade.
