Captain America and The Falcon #133-#222... complete issue goal!

Hi all,

A project I've always considered has been collecting the entire original run of Captain America and The Falcon stories published over a seven year span between 1971 and 1978. The issue count is 89 total running from #133-#222 and includes Jack Kirby's second take on Cap from issues #193-#214. I've always enjoyed the on screen relationship between Cap and The Falcon in the MCU and the two are among my favorite superheroes. I thought it would be fun to take a look at their relationship in the comics too. I haven't seen a complete run of this issue before and am thinking of starting with the Kirby run of #193-#214 as launching point and picking up an issue or two each month going forward starting in April. I can currently get the complete chunk of Kirby issues as well as #190-#192 in very presentable condition with great eye appeal for $63 including shipping and would like some opinions as to whether or not this is a good deal and if this would be a good set once completed? Regardless, I think it would be a fun project!

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I had my publication dates wrong. Being that this issue falls within the Bronze Age, I have moved this post over to that section as well.

not sure if it is a good deal or not but it sounds like you enjoy this run and as the ole adage goes, collect what you like

I always enjoyed the Kirby return for this run though I’m not quite sure that on the eve of Falcon and Winter Soldier making its television debut that I’d be looking to buy Cap/Falcon books

good luck with the project though and report back

25 mainstream BA comics in presentable shape for $63 does sound like a fair deal to me.  It's about $2.50 a book without the work of tracking them all down.  Go for it.

The Kirby run is very different from it's surroundings.  Opinions on it vary, but I do enjoy it for its sheer creativity.

There's lots of good stuff in the long run you're looking at.  I have them all and enjoy those books.  Good luck.

I've definitely come to appreciate Kirby's work at Marvel in the 70s more with age.

The creativity feels quite unrestrained, as with the bizarre physical appearance of Arnim Zola in the Captain America series, and borders on insane at times, as in parts of the short-lived Devil Dinosaur run.  The dialogue polarises, but there's a manic quality to it which fits the visuals for me.  I'm sure you'll find his work here an entertaining choice to start with.

I own those comics and I really enjoy them. I think the deal sounds good; I would be tempted to pull the trigger myself.
I love Kirby most, but the 20 cent cover Sal Buscema era really stands out, too. Great run to assemble.

Do you know what the first and last issues of Buscema's Cap run were?

MY Spidey, Thor, Avengers, Daredevil run all stop at the 200 issue mark. My Cap run ends at 192, as I look at the Kirby run that starts at 193 as a bad dream. It just didn't happen. I should cut out the Frank Robbins issues as well, but those I bought off the stands. I bought the first Kirby issue  and took a nearly three year hiatus.  I think Cap 153 until the Robbins issues were the high point of Caps run.

Someone gave me a B&W preview of Cap 200 with no dialog and while it looked better than I expected, it didn't rise to the level of interest.
