steelcity
The 1980s was when I did most buying from comic book fairs. That decade also saw Batman related titles become more popular. Publishing of "The Dark Knight Returns" in 1986 had an impact. Perhaps more so with 1988's "The Killing Joke" but the 1989 Batman film had the single most massive affect of increasing Batman's popularity. A few of my 1980s buys. Popular Post steelcity
The SA Batman collector who seeks out the Batman and Detective Comics titles can sometimes stray into the Twilight Zone known as... steelcity
The first 80 Page Giant I owned was a coverless Superboy 129. All the giants offered value for money reprinting classic tales. In my comic book fair days I was always looking out for these delicate beauties. frozentundraguy, JohnH19, hchill25 and 1 other
Popular Post steelcity
Great Scott! The sci-fi era for Batman in his early silver age was bizarre with tales of extreme fantasy. Colorful aliens and a seemingly endless procession of assorted monsters left Batman far from his roots and from the Dark Knight he would eventually become. hchill25, frozentundraguy, Jasonmorris1000000 and 2 others
steelcity
Detective Comics #326 is where it all ended. From #327 Batman would again become a grittier character. Though colorful super villains would return to prominence the feverish fantasy era was over. I'm sure this move both gained and lost readers of Batman and Detective Comics, so jarring was the sudden change of style and appearance. I still prefer the old Detective Comics title logo. frozentundraguy
Obtaining this book ended a 6 to 8 year search for an acceptable copy. For much of that time I was only checking Ebay. Now I know better. On Ebay I would often see 2 or 3 copies for sale, many of them 2.5's masquerading as 4.0's. It's the first app of the Bat Tank and technically the first Detective Comic issue of the Silver Age. hchill25, Jasonmorris1000000, steelcity and 1 other
Galen130
Just found this thread earlier this evening. Batman is my favorite DC character, but I don't have many SA's yet. I'm working on it. Here are a couple I picked up and will have in my hands soon. They'll be cleaned, pressed, graded, and added to my personal collection. Jasonmorris1000000
What a cool comic! I used to think Frank Miller came up with the Bat Tank in the 1980’s. Thanks for schooling me in Bat History this evening. 3 hours ago, frozentundraguy said: Obtaining this book ended a 6 to 8 year search for an acceptable copy. Probably slabbed. I have visions of a grand comic room in the future where I can display stuff. Galen130
Here are the only other SA Batman's I have in my collection at present, including a couple titles not directly Batman. Funny thing is, I don't have a single Batman titled book!!! Not sure how that happened. Guess I'll have to work on that... frozentundraguy, Jasonmorris1000000 and hchill25
