PGM Incredible Hulk #5 3 3

In response to a post in the SA forum, I got this out of its bag for the first time in 40+y. One of the big NYC dealers that I bought it from graded it as "NM". I suspect that grade will not be confirmed here.

(Lucky they put those labels there - we would not have wanted to call Miss Ross an Incredible Hulk).

Is that a stain running down the opening edge of the book? I can kinda see it in the girls red dress too.

If it is, def not near mint. And it seems like a weird stain/discolouration. Hard to pinpoint how that affects the grade.

4.0 - 5.0 with that stain.  This book needs a press and clean.  I don’t think the stain will clean completely , but the back cover will looks like it can improve a lot.  The front top right and spine will be greatly improved with the press.

This is a book that will sell higher than the cgc grade as people will be more lenient than cgc on the stain depending on how well it cleans.

Yes I know its def not NM!

I was surprised to see that stain there. I certainly don't recall it from previously. As mentioned, it has been in the bag it came with all these years and hasn't been exposed to light, water, humidity etc.

To my eyes, with a good cleaning, this book should be at 6.5 or so. So either you guys are way off...

...or I'm overdue at the optometrist.

With a stain that large I have a hard time going higher than 4.5

Actually it is... it's their proprietary grading system:

If it wasnt for that staining I'd grade it higher. I'm gonna say 4.5. Great book.

They do seem to be tough on stains, so I agree with the 4.5 to 5.0 range so far expressed. It will be a great-presenting book if you do indeed get it slabbed.
