When encapsulating, what requirements are used by CGC when determining whether or not the word "variant" goes on the label?

If the publisher states it is a variant cover, it will be noted as such. Also, any books that differ from the original printing and are printed in a different quantity will be noted as variants.

1) Don't second, third, etc.. prints fall under this category?

2) Don't both Direct and Newstand Editions also fall under this category? NS editions differ from DS editions and I presume are printed in different quantities. The same could be said for second prints. ??

We do note second, third prints, etc. on the label.

For Newstand vs Direct copies, we will only note them if there is a significant difference in the comic, otherwise it will not be noted, especially with older comics.

Gemma,

What would it take to get CGC to recognize the Wolverine Origins #3 Hidden Text Variant as a separate book? This appears to be ~1:10 cover, and is commanding significant premium on Ebay over the variant without the hidden text...

regards

Allen

The Bianchi cover without the hidden text is graded as regular cover and the text reads "two different covers exist." The Bianchi cover with the hidden text is graded as Variant Cover and the text reads "Hidden text added to background."

If you have either variant mislabeled we will gladly correct the label at no charge.

If I didn't write "Variant" on my submission form and already sent it, will this cause any significant problems with my submission?
