The book is well worth reading in any format I'd suggest you check it out :) I think there are more larrys variants of invincible than regular covers so its not rare or hard to find .... If anything the first print of the regular release is ....

I think the front cover is the same as #1 the only difference is it says its larrys

The regular #1 had a much larger print run than the Larry's limited edition.

The main difference between the two is that the Larry's edition says "Larry's Limited Edition" (similar to what he does for all his variants) on the cover - it also has a large "1" in the top-right corner instead of the standard Image issue number / price box, and no UPC code on the front.

The limited #1 is neat, but doesn't command anywhere the money you'll get for a regular #1.

+1 The Larry's is a great low cost way to get a #1, especially for SS.

OK,

Back in 2003, I expanded my retail shop into the local convention business. I wanted to model my shows after Fred Greenburg conventions, where the focus of the show was one guest. ( not an entire artist alley)

From my fandom I fondly remembered the Mignolia Greenberg show. The McFarlane Greenberg show. The Brandon Peterson Greenberg show. Ect.

I thought that giving away a variant comic FREE with admission would be a great idea and draw. I contacted publishers.

The first show I scheduled was Portland, ME, Josh Howard artist of Dead@7.

Publisher, Viper printed me 1,000 copies of Dead@17 #1 Variant.

deadat171.gif

500 of which arrived damaged.

The next show I hosted Robert Kirkman. He agreed to print a variant to Invincible #1. The new version had my shop logo , a cardstock cover & back cover by my pals Rich Woodall & Matt Talbot ( Johnny Raygun) Kirkman let me overprint to cover damages. I printed 1,600. All came in pristine condition. ( the cover stock is amazing)

The show was a flop. It was the weekend before Christmas. There was a huge snowstorm. The hotel hosted a porn show the same weekend. I gave out maybe 100 comics.

I was stuck with a fairly obscure (at the time) 1,500 Invincible #1's

The Original printing of Invincible #1 was 9,000

The show variant is 6x scarcer.

A few people own alot of copies.

The bulk of the print run is owned by people on the CGC forum. It will probably never be worth anything.

It is a great affordable way to read one of the greatest modern day superhero saga's.

Collectors do not really need a variant "IF" the cover is not different.

Respectfully

So are you saying there are only 500 of these books? I love the Dead@17 original run.

NO.

I am saying there are only 500 potential high grade copies. 500 were dented out of the 1,000 printed.

I love Josh Howard's art style.

I always felt there was more than 1K of these out there. I guess this is confirmation.

I bought one of those 10 packs of these you were selling. They came in a priority mailer with no bags and boards or protection. Your packaging is Awesome!!

The hotel hosted a porn show the same weekend.

How was the show?

I bet some of the geeks who were intending to go to the comic show saw the porn show and headed that way instead. Who needs comics when fat geek boys can circle jerk and get rubber ?

You felt wrong.

Unfortunatley I can confirm there are NOT more than 1,000 out there. I know what was printed. I know what I have. I overprinted to cover a possible damage. If you have a copy you can attest to the pristine cover stock.

There are about 950+ in circulation. Mostly by CGC boardies that bought 10 packs

or more.

So then you are holding on to the rest? Why not sell them? Your website says it is sold out.

Yes, the cover stock on these is nice and thick and glossy. It's the kind of stock that looks like when they get bent up from no protection in transit though.

Sweet. You probably have another 6 months to catch up before you guys record another one. Slackers.

There isn't any legit excitement around the Dark Key line anyway.

I love some of the remarks directed at me in that thread. Nothing reveals one's own sexual insecurity more than constantly questioning someone else's.

;)

I *do* love "butternips", though. :)
