My user name will tell you where I’m livin’, but I will second Mike Mignola to the list. His Hellboy work from the 90s and early 2000s is as good as anything ever done in the medium.

In my opinion.

Any list without Boris Vallejo, Frank Frazetta, and Sanjulian is a faltering list.

I can only hope that a thread 13 pages in didn't fail to mention these elites.  Thank God for Oakman for bringing order to a chaotic world

Now you know and knowing is half the battle.

By listing Erik Larsen, you have lost any and all credibility

When I hear Gene Colan, I always loved his rendition of Black Widow in Amazing Adventure.  Gene Colan's pencil works had to be, ahem, edited for final production.

I know there's a lot of nostalgia toward newsprint and the four color process of the pre-good paper era, but... yeah, they just ruined that artwork in reproduction.

True dat! Gene's work should never have been allowed to be colored. His B/W work is astounding

That's generally true for artists with a heavily-shaded style, atmosphere that works well for horror and urban / crime settings, as with Colan on Tomb of Dracula and Daredevil, and Graham Ingels at EC, or Alex Toth's chiaroscuro approach.

I agree with you point, but in this particular instance I think White-Out is more of the culprit than the pulp paper.

If he was the one that upped BW’s cup size to a double d, then yup, I agree
