Cherry Poptart comics and Identifying 1st print/ second print
1 1

39 posts in this topic

Hi all,

I recently picked up a very nice condition run of Cherry Poptart comics 1-5, and I am having trouble determining if they are first or second printings.

I know the #1 is a second print as it does not contain the Vamperonica story, but how does a person discern the printings on the subsequent issues?

I have asked a local comic dealer/ friend who is into undergrounds and he has told me the inside cover would say second printing, is this the case?

Any information is appreciated, thanks.

Your best bet is picking up the Fogels supplement - it has all the identifying characteristics for the various Cherry printings.

In short, though, here are some of the ways you can identify the first couple of issues:

#1 - 1st print has $2.00 cover price.

#1 - 2nd through 6th prints have $2.50 cover price.

#2 - 1st print has $2.00 cover price.

#2 - 2nd print has $2.50 cover price, with a line under the cents and a period between $2 and 50.

#2 - 3rd print has $2.50 cover price, with a line under the cents, but no period.

#2 - 4th print has $2.50 cover price, with proportional numbers and no line.

#2 - 5th print has $2.95 cover price.

#3 - 1st through 5th print has $2.50 cover price, some of them will say the printing in the indicia.

#4 - 1st through 4th print has $2.50 cover price, some of them will say the printing in the indicia.

#5 - 1st through 4th print has $2.50 cover price, some of them will say the printing in the indicia.

#6 - 1st through 3rd print has $2.50 cover price, 2nd & 3rd print is listed in the indicia.

#7 - 1st and 2nd print has $2.50 cover price, 2nd print is listed in the indicia.

#8 - 1st and 2nd print has $2.50 cover price, 2nd print is listed in the indicia.

#9, #10 - 1st prints have $2.50 cover price.

#11 - 1st prints have $3.50 cover price and no 3D glasses.

An easy way to spot later printings of issue #1 and #2 is to look at the title - if it's "Cherry" and not "Cherry Poptart", it's a newer reprint. Starting with issue #3 the book was renamed to "Cherry" because of copyright issues.

Ebay put me on a 24 hour time-out.

Here is the e-mail I received last night after re-pricing some CGC books I had listed for several months.

After reviewing your eBay account, it appears that you have violated eBay's Adult Material policy. As a result, we've taken the following actions on your account:

- Selling privileges have been temporarily restricted. You won't be able to list new items for 1 day. You're also not allowed to register a new account during this time.

- Violating listings have been removed. A full list of removed items is available further down in this email.

- Any fees for listings ended early because of this violation will not be credited to your account.

Listings of most adult magazines are allowed only in the Everything Else > Adult Only > Magazine Back Issues category. These items should only be available to people 18 years of age and older, and need to be listed in the appropriate category.

There are some exceptions when listing adult magazines. Magazine issues of Playboy, Playgirl, and Penthouse may be listed in the Books > Magazine Back Issues category. However, the listing must not include nude images or sexually explicit content.

To learn more about our adult-only policy, go to:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/adult-only.html

You listed a media item that is not permitted for sale on the general site due to its adult content and generally restricted presence outside of adult specialty shops. This can include films, books, games, etc. that contain mature content. We appreciate that you chose to utilize our site and you are welcome to relist within the Everything Else - Adults Only categories. We would have loved to explain this to you over a phone call, however, this item was removed outside of our calling hours. (9:00 AM to 9:00 PM

During this restriction, you can still:

- Send email

- Obtain shipping addresses

- Leave Feedback

- Perform other administrative tasks

Please be sure to manage any current listings and to complete any open transactions. After 1 day, your account will no longer be restricted. However, keep in mind that any additional violations of this policy could result in the suspension of your account. Once eBay suspends an account, the member no longer has any account access. In addition, all active listings are canceled, and members who placed bids on those listings are notified.

If you have more questions, contact our policy experts:

Here are the listings that were removed.

131388740987 - Cherry #8 CGC 9.6 NM / NM+ Wizard of Oz Parody Cover and Story 1989

131388741475 - Cherry #17 CGC 9.6 NM / NM+ TMNT Story Steven Tyler Photo Back Cover 1995

141520510323 - Cherry #22 CGC 9.6 NM / NM+ X-Files Parody Cover and Stories - Photo Back Cover

We appreciate your understanding.

Thanks,

eBay

This isn't the first time i've brought up that Ebay doesn't allow you to list Cherry Comix on there site - even though they allow actual pornography - its weird and its my bias. I will never list Cherry Comix Again - I just wanted to share my comical time out e-mail.

Kisses

Oh of course.. but GL getting anything in that section... it pales in comparison to the collectibles>comics category

Yeah, the adult area is a ghost town, a real killer for sales.

Great information. I have never seen a $2.50 CGC graded Cherry (issues 3-8) listed as a later print on the label though.
