Could this be a production defect??

Hey guys, this is a really sharp copy, NM or so, except for this, which I didn't notice when buying. COuld this be a production defect or is it insect chew or something else?

doesn't look like a production/manufacturing flaw. Insect or rodent possibly or just mishandled at some point

Thanks for the reply. I feel it would be hard for it to be "damage" because it is so clean and I think other damage would be present to go along with it, if you catch my drift.

 

I think insect chew is the likely cause but it's just so clean and right along the spine that I thought maaaybe it could be a production defect.

 

Other opinions?

Probably a bug chew is my guess. Could've been a small sealed split that someone scrapped off as well, but unlikely on that book I would think.
