the publicity stunt may be that guy who started all this and bidding it up with shill accounts-- hoping some dope comes along and gives them a big payday over what amounts to a non-event in most peoples eyes.

This is true.  It is not really a reliable indicator of anything fishy going on.  However, the $520 leading bid is. Maybe, this is just a case of buy the label, and bidders don't know what 'infamous' means and did not bother looking at the back page picture . . . or maybe some spooners just have money to burn.

eBay has taken away a lot of the tools that you used to be able to use to tell shilling. If it's not a unique item it's not hard to tell, like that one joker who got caught last year.

If its unique like this it could just be people who rarely buy on eBay. Or could be, as some have commented, the grader wanting it back.
