Anyone know what a VF copy with the dust jacket of SOTI is valued at these days?

A lot, particularly if it includes the bibliography, which, of course, was removed from many copies.

Yes.  Here's my beat up copy, but it's first print with the bibliography.

After years of hearing about the bibliography, it was kind of a let down when I finally saw it.  But, you definitely have to go for a copy with the bibliography.

Major Harvey Romance Action Tonight

A lot of high grade Harvey romance comics closed tonight.  I bid on 10 and won 4.  I'm having fun chasing after these Harveys; although, I'm getting spoiled by the high grade copies that seem to be available.  Here are the ones I won:

Nice grabs Mike. I was going to go after a few myself but I was working a show today and just didn’t get the chance.

Another Aggressive Baker Auction

This closed last night for $551. I really like this cover, it has good color, and the giants are a challenge to get in nice condition.  Congrats to both the seller and buyer.  But once again I was surprised by the closing bid.  Bakers truly are on fire right now.  Hopefully the high prices will encourage others to sell more Bakers.   There are many Bakers we rarely see for sale, and I'm interested to see how they would do in the current market.

Hey Scott midlife crisis guy -- just checked out your registry sets.  You need to upload pics!

The Rarest Bakers In Your Collection

Above I posted "There are many Bakers we rarely see for sale, and I'm interested to see how they would do in the current market."  It started me thinking, what are the rarest Baker covers in my collection?  So here are a few.  These aren't necessarily the most well known or desirable, but instead are the ones that I rarely see for sale.

Lately I've found myself with a few extra copies of SOTI, so I've been selling them off on eBay.  I had a slightly lesser grade than this offered at $500.  It was complete with bibliography and dust jacket, but the book had some markings and the DJ was a bit more worn.  It sat for a couple months with no takers at $500, but then sold last week with a best offer of $400.  I would expect the copy you have to go north of that.  Does that help?

Regards,

Steve O'Day, SOTI Collector

Nice group of books. The PR 10 is not rare or even scarce. Copies show up. It was one of my first Baker Romances.

Rare or scarce is pretty much in the mind of the poster. If you have paid attention for a while you get a feeling of what you have seen or not seen. I have collected Baker books here and there for years but only seriously for the past 3 years or so. So a lot have slipped under my radar. Think about what you have seen (or NOT seen) in the Baker threads and you will have a better idea. Personally, I have had several copies of Giant Comics Edition #5 and Record Book of Famous Police Cases over the years. Never seen a copy of Fighting Indian Stories and this is only the 3rd All Picture Adventure I have seen. #2 although not a Baker cover is even tougher.

Using the internet to gauge scarcity can be deceptive.... especially when focusing on sales venues to gather "data". The most desirable items are often the least seen because folks want to keep them.... so it's easy to form the misconception that they are scarce. While many of the Bakers are truly uncommon, it's hard to judge rarity with items that are prized  and in high demand. GOD BLESS....

I picked up the Southern States copy of that one from DTA a while back.  Note that CGC doesn't acknowledge the Baker cover.

It may be subjective, and I'm only going by my experience, but it's good experience. I'm talking internet and conventions. And years of digging around for this stuff.

What To Do On a Snow Day?  SMOKE!

Okay, not that kind of smoke.  Today the east coast got hit with a major snowstorm.  Schools are closed, the government is closed, where I work is closed.  I was supposed to go to NYC today for work.  At this moment, at 7pm, I had a reservation at Il Mulino Prime.  I should be eating a perfectly cooked ribeye right now. But the entire east coast is shut down.

So what to do with a suddenly free day?  For me it's to play on my Big Green Egg!  Today I smoked a pork shoulder.  Smoking while it's snowing is one of the joys of life.  Especially if combined with sipping a bourbon and surfing the boards.  (And, now my NYC trip is rescheduled for next week so I still get to get that steak at Il Mulino!)

IMG_2837.thumb.jpg.8eacbe658b0c83682f35e6ded3dde2db.jpg

ALMOST makes me want to get snowed in. Especially the bourbon part. I had to go to work...:sorry:
