Piece chipped off of back cover - impact on grade?

Hey folks, newbie here. I have a silver age Marvel book that, aside from a small missing piece on the back cover, is in terrific shape.

Assuming that the rest of the book is about a 9.0, how much of a hit would the grade take if I submitted this one? See attached pic.

Thanks in advance!

That's a production issue. On many Marvel back covers, you'll see a crescent-like impression right about there, usually a little lower, and/or in the same relative position from the bottom up, same left margin. It looks like the start of a "roller-impression", like those roller marks that sometimes cause impressions across the cover, front or back.

Sometimes, a part of that impression pushes through the paper clear through, much like the staples on squarebounds cause impressions or tears through annual covers. In some cases like this, though rare, they pull the paper off altogether.

At any rate, it's a "marvel chip", probably not caused in the same fashion as typical Marvel chips, by dulled cutting blades that snag and tear the edge, but by whatever mechanism causes those typical impressions on many S.A. Marvel left back cover margins.

So 9.0 otherwise? An 8.0 with the chip, not quite as critical an impact as if on the front cover.

Cool, never knew that!

I have a Fantastic Four #112 with a bigger chip than this one, and it's CGC 8.0.
