As a new Planet guy, I was watching the Planet 37 9.4 Lost Valley book and it went for $3360 after BP. Wowzers!

I was hoping to get one from CC but perhaps not! :frustrated:

Yeah, not the best of times to start in on collecting those books, unfortunately.

It wasn’t there when I bought my 8.0, is all I know. That was maybe a year ago

Graded in 2005.  CGC isn't always consistent on how it lists Archies in the census.  The publisher they list can vary.  Maybe that was it?

Been there for awhile, actually.

I remember subbing that book for grading. It was one of two identical copies I bought at a Chicago show in the ‘80s.

Do you remember the grade for the other copy or is it still raw?

You must mean like this Police Comics #1 which managed to fetched $9K or more than triple condition guide price:

Golden Age (1938-1955):Superhero, Police Comics #1 (Quality, 1941) CGC FN- 5.5 White pages....

Golden Age (1938-1955):Superhero, Police Comics #1 (Quality, 1941) CGC FN- 5.5 White pages....

Seems to be substantially higher than where it has been selling for in the recent past.  But then again, this copy here seems to present much better than its assigned CGC 5.5 grade from what I can see on the front cover.  Unless they are whacking it for the pronounced and heavy dust shadow on the back cover which is supposedly the kind of defect which they did not used to grade as harsh for in the past before.  (shrug)

This book, when available (which has been rare), has sold very strong privately.  I had it pegged at 11K but thought 9K was a solid result and I'm happy to see that the book is finally getting its due with this public sale.

The Billy Wright cgc 8.0 went for 12k about a year and a half  ago and that marked the last time anyone got this book at a bargain price.

Since then its been a 3-4 times guide book consistently even in very low grade.  You probably missed the voldy 1.8 slightly brittle going last weekend on HA for 4.2k... so this result was no surprise.

First appearance of Plastic Man and unsexy Quality  Phantom Lady... this has for years been a severely undervalued GA key only now getting it’s due.  I imagine it’s the terrible cover that’s held it back for so long.

Anyone else surprised at the seemingly low hammers on the high grade Marvel Mystery Comics?

There's always debate about the best strategy for selling a group of books, but what were there, 25 or something MMCs?  Seems like a lot to be absorbed in one auction.

And I know people say it doesn't matter, but having the auction start in the middle of the day eastern time doesn't seem like a recipe for success.  I was only able to dip in briefly a couple of times.

That was my problem.  Had a couple of books I was considering, but it’s hard to sneak out of the exam room and check out the auction. Might see if there is something in Saturday’s session that catches my eye.

Well, you better give Fishler a call then and tell him this is definitely not the best way for him to dispose of his near complete Church run of Planet Comics which he has in his upcoming CC Auction in a few weeks from now.  doh!  lol

Thanks.  I didn’t know.  I just dropped the winning bid on one! Well, MAYBE the winning bid.  Ok, it’s probably not going to win without a little update from time to time.
